The mission of AOCOPM is to provide education in occupational, environmental, aerospace and preventive medicine and to encourage member activity & leadership.

The American Osteopathic College of Occupational and Preventive Medicine (AOCOPM) was originally chartered by the AOA in 1979 as the American Osteopathic Academy of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. In 1984, the organization merged with the American Osteopathic Occupational Medicine Association to form the American Osteopathic College of Preventive Medicine. In February, 1995, the current name was adopted to better reflect the membership. Sign up for the AOCOPM newsletter. On World Mental Health Day, we recognize the importance of mental well-being and the impact it has on every aspect of our lives. Mental health challenges are common, but with support, awareness, and early intervention, individuals can lead healthy, fulfilling lives. Let’s break the stigma, offer compassion, and prioritize care for every mind.

More than 1 in 5 U.S. adults experience a mental illness each year, and about 1 in 20 experience a serious mental illness that substantially limits daily functioning, according to NAMI's Mental Health by the Numbers data, compiled from SAMHSA, CDC, and NIMH sources. Since most of those adults are working age, the odds are strong that mental illness already sits inside every team a company has, whether or not it has ever come up in a one-on-one. That scale alone is reason enough for MIAW to sit on the CSR calendar with the same weight as any other major health observance.

Stigma is still the biggest barrier between employees and the support they say they want. Only 61 percent of employees feel comfortable discussing mental health at work. Let's break the stigma and create an environment of understanding and support. Learn more at https://www.nami.org/programs/
