Bridge Pups Rescue

Precious Khaleesi, who crossed to El Paso from Juarez on her own back in April 2022 (can’t believe it’s been that long!) and who was adopted by the most PAWsomely loving military family, has unfortunately fallen ill.
The second photo is from when I first posted about her, and the last photos are the messages from her adoring mom .reneec sharing about Khaleesi’s condition.

Venezuelan Simba is in El Paso!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU Erik, the kind-hearted truck driver who made the long journey and delivered him safely! Aaaaaaand, thank you to Erik’s lovely wife Marisol Gonzalez of Finding Meadows: Pet Rescue Team who helped arrange this!
I can’t even begin to express the RELIEF I feel having my “ahijado” (his family named him my godson) here where we can care for him while we wait to plan next steps in eventually reuniting him with his beloved family after they are deported.

Speaking of which, I called to leave Yurimar another message today after calling the Dilley detention facility for 4 days and leaving her messages with no call back and she finally called me back while we were at Josie’s house (Josie is our amazing team member who will be fostering him).

Of course, Yurimar was extremely relieved and grateful to know he’s here. She shared that no one at the ICE detention facility gave her any of my 4 messages I had left. She also shared that she and her two children need money in their commissary account for soap and necessities so I’ll be using donations to send that tomorrow.

Simba is very skinny and has clearly lost weight from all the heart break and changes, but I’m confident he’ll put on weight at Josie’s; he’s already having fun playing with his 3 new foster siblings! ❤️ He is currently snoozing 💤 with a full belly of Josie’s homemade dog food. Pupdates on his progress and story to come!
Thank you again to all who have helped me with Simba, especially My Dog Is My Home, People, Britt in FL, and Lorraine G Rodriguez who lovingly fostered him in Orlando, the Orange County Animal Services, and all you who have generously donated, cared, or shared!!! Sadly, I haven’t gotten a call from Simba’s mom Yurimar. I’m definitely worried because I deposited money in her communication account and have now left 3 messages for her. Please send positive juju that they’re ok and that she’ll call me back soon. 🥺❤️🐾🇻🇪🇺🇸

Friends, I just learned that Erik, the kind truck-driver who is driving Simba to El Paso, is married to a local rescuer who runs Finding Meadows: Pet Rescue Team! She shared this touching post yesterday and now it makes Simba’s transport even MORE special! Thank you, Erik and Marisol and Happy Anniversary to you both!!!

Sweet Venezuelan Simba is being picked up from his wonderful temporary foster Lorraine in Orlando, FL TODAY at 2 pm MST by the kind-hearted truck driver Erik! He’ll then start his journey to El Paso where he’ll be fostered by our amazing team-member and foster to dozens of our past Bridge Pups, Josie!
We do still need backup fosters, just in case! Please DM if you can be a backup foster option to sweet Simba.

I’m so happy to have the opportunity to connect my academic work with my rescue work through this talk, and if you’re in El Paso you’re all invited to come to UTEP - The University of Texas at El Paso to attend!

I’ll be exploring the sacred role of dogs in Aztec culture and thought, while also sharing how that ancient human-dog bond that transcends borders (and even death) resonates with my work and experiences through my Bridge Pups Rescue.

It feels especially meaningful to bring these two equally important parts of my life together, perhaps especially with the recent unfortunate and touching Simba situation. I hope to leave you all with a unique appreciation of the incredible bond between people and dogs. It would be a pleasure to see you there, friends. ❤️🐾
