A light isn't meant to stand still.

It moves, It guides, It leads.

It helps others find their way.

This week, be the light that helps someone move forward in their journey out of homelessness.

At Sea Glass Initiative, we believe hope moves people forward. Every meal shared, every resource offered, every partnership formed, and every life changed begins with someone willing to take the first step.

Let's make this week one of compassion, connection, and forward movement.

Because everyone deserves a brighter day.

This past week marked an important milestone for Baldwin County.

For the first time, churches across our county opened their doors as Cooling Centers, providing a safe place for neighbors to escape the dangerous heat.

A heartfelt thank you to our Partners in Faith churches for answering the call to serve:

💙 Peace Community Church
💙 Oyster Bay Baptist Church
💙 Loxley Church of Grace
💙 Rosinton Community

We also want to recognize Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Foley, Baldwin County's registered Safer Place, for opening its doors during the extreme heat.

A special thank you to our Board Member and Partners in Faith Liaison, Dr. Bill Lawrence, whose leadership, countless phone calls, and willingness to answer the call helped bring this effort together. Your heart for serving our community and your commitment to uniting churches made a real difference.

Most importantly, thank you to every volunteer who gave their time to staff these locations. Whether your center welcomed many guests or just one, your willingness to be present meant that help was available when it was needed. Sometimes the greatest act of service is simply making sure the door is open.

Sea Glass Initiative was honored to provide homelessness services to several individuals and who sought assistance during this effort, connecting them with resources and support and our services.

This week reminded us that protecting our most vulnerable neighbors takes all of us, churches, volunteers, nonprofits, first responders, and community partners, working together.

This is what community looks like. This is what serving as One Church looks like.

Thank you for your compassion, your willingness to serve, and your commitment to making Baldwin County a place where no one has to face extreme weather alone.

We have updated the list for Cooling Centers open tomorrow around Baldwin County. At this time there will be a total of 5 Cooling Centers open for relief from the heat.

Loxley Church of Grace has been added and Saint Paul's Episcopal in Foley will open again tomorrow. They are open until 8pm tonight.

Please take shelter at one of these locations during the heat of the day if you are unhoused or living without air.

Please join us tomorrow for our quarterly Baldwin Community Council on Homelessness meeting.

Community Starts with Conversation

Over the past couple of months, homelessness has been a topic of conversation across our county. While perspectives may vary, progress is only possible when our community comes together to listen, collaborate and work toward a shared vision.

That's exactly why the Baldwin Community Council on Homelessness exists.

We invite service providers, churches, law enforcement, healthcare professionals, local leaders, businesses, and community members to join us for our upcoming quarterly meeting.

This is an opportunity to learn, share ideas, discuss challenges, and work collaboratively to strengthen the network of support for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Baldwin County.

Everyone is welcome. Every voice matters.

Wednesday, July 29
9:00 AM
Baldwin County Central Annex Building at 22251 Palmer St. Robertsdale in the Auditorium.

Together, we can build practical solutions that make a lasting difference.
