“Where do your animals come from?”
We got a call from an animal protection officer about a 76 year old woman who could no longer care for this 7month old ball of marshmallow fluff. Rather than taking him to an overflowing rural shelter, she asked if we could take him. Toby came with a bag full of his favorite things and even rode in the backseat on his favorite chair that came with him. Even the best of boys find themselves needing a new home with nowhere to go. Just because they’re in rescue doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with them.

With all this very welcomed rain, there has been extra cleaning/raking going on and we could use a few more forks and rakes. If you have rakes that are in usable condition that you have no use for we would love them or we have added a link to the wishlist that have rakes and forks for anyone that would like to help ❤️ On that same wish list there are also fly traps and fly spray that we are also in desperate need of. Many thanks for the support from the animals and they are caretakers.

🧸Auggie Update🧸
Spina Bifida in multiple locations. Vertebral malformations In his thoracic, caudal, and sacrum vertebrate. His scapula (shoulder bone) shows evidence of osteomyelitis (infection of the bone) and septic arthritis. Bilateral stifle joint effusion (Swelling at his knees). Hydrocephalus. Sliding hiatal hernia.
The gross majority of these diagnosis are congenital and this is what we are doing to bulldogs. Flatter faces so they cannot breath. Screw tails that come with spinal deformities and incontinence.
Auggie will never have control of his bowels and surgery for the hernia in his chest is likely in his future.
He is THE happiest boy in the world but so much of this was preventable and that’s heartbreaking.

“Hello! Just wanted to see if Bella would be a good fit. She is 7 years old. Housebroken. Knows sit and shake. She does great with other dogs and kids. Ignores cats. She came from a home with 4 varying degrees of special needs kids and loved them all. Just thought I would check! Thanks!” This is a message that we just got about a girl sitting at the Wilcox Shelter. She sounds like she could be the perfect addition to a family with young kids❤️

Biene Update!
Last week we had a busy day in Gilbert with two animals going to two different vet clinics all in one trip. Pod went to Arizona Equine and Biene went to AZ Vet Dental Specialists 🦷. Pods appointment was first and we’re lucky that they were kind enough to let him hang out in a stall after his appointment so we could swing Biene to hers down the road!
All good things from Bienes recheck! The sutures were removed from the “donor” ear where the cartilage was removed and it’s healed really well. Her mouth is doing fantastic! The sutures in her mouth are dissolvable so those will take time before they are all gone. Right now the goal is 2 more weeks on soft food and 4 more weeks of nothing else in her mouth (no toys for a puppy is ROUGH). And then we will re assess.
She is the sweetest snuggly girl and being so brave through all of this❤️
We’re so grateful for the public believing in her, the medical team, and us. This was a big undertaking and right now it seems to be a success.
If you would like to be a part of more animals stories like Biene, ways to donate are below!

Annette: “Ok everyone let’s welcome Gilly into LLR.”
*everyone* “Hiiiii Gillyyyyy”
That’s sort of how it goes. I will start by saying that whatever originally happened to Gillys leg happened over night about 2 weeks ago and his owner had a veterinarian out that day. We know because he was boarded at a facility that some of the LLR horses are boarded at. Sandy helped with bandaging and injections in the beginning of his treatment. What started as catastrophic swelling turned into a horrific amount of tissue loss, massive ongoing vet bills, weight loss, and months of bandaging ahead, if he lives. We offered to take Gilly and try to help him with our veterinary team but that means we need your help.
Gilly needs bandage changes daily and that is a lot of bandaging supplies. Those supplies will change alongside the changes of his healing progress. He also needs to put on hundreds of pounds and as a seasoned gentleman that can be hard. We will need LOTS of senior horse feed (very palatable and easy to digest with all of his medications) and hay pellets. Soaking hay pellets will increase his fluid intake and ease digestion for him. This is our GREATEST NEED.
An Amazon wishlist is linked below but if you want to order “Purina Equine Senior” or any “alfalfa pellet” from our local Tractor Supply, Cal Ranch, or Jems Feed we can pick that up too!

Happy life Daphne girl! From the small rural dog pound to family girl💜

Between the monsoon storms and the heat, even the wild birds are struggling this part of the summer. These two friends were found in water troughs and spent the night in the “bird bucket” to dry and rest. One bird was missing his foot and I won’t lie, I hesitated opening my hand, but when I did he flew away and landed in a tree (look right in the middle) to give me an earful and we’ll just pretend it was a thank you. Sometimes I wish someone would put me in a dark quiet room for a day to reset🤷♀️

Big day today. Pod and Biene both had appointments in Gilbert so we scheduled them on the same day and we’ll see how that goes🤪
