Yesterday was a special day.

My wife gave birth to our baby boy, Chase Robert Allen, Sophia’s new baby brother—or as Sophia calls him, “Baby Cheese.” It definitely wasn’t how we expected the day to start. We woke up, and Hannah had gone into labor. It was 8:00 a.m., and I hadn’t gotten home from Williams Grove until 1:30 that morning, so when she woke me up to tell me what was going on, I was definitely a little startled.

My first words were, “Hold on, baby—I have to call Cam and let him know what’s going on.” We were planning on racing Lincoln that night, and there was still a lot of work to do to get the car ready. After a heartbreaking second-place finish Friday night at the Grove, I really didn’t want to miss being at Lincoln with the boys. Naturally, there wasn’t a question I was choosing the birth of our son but everything was happening all at once.

Selfishly, I was thinking, “Come on, little buddy… you’ve got to wait just a little longer. Dad and the boys have a few things to take care of first.” 😂

As the day went on, so did Hannah’s labor. Around 3:00 p.m. we loaded the car, I handed the keys to Cam, and said, “I’m not sure what’s going to happen, but good luck.”

I got to the hospital around 3:30, and at 4:30 p.m., Hannah delivered baby Chase.

It was an emotional moment. Not only because it was our son, but because my dad wasn’t there with us. I hope one day I can be half the father to Chase that Scruffy was to me.

I cut the cord, and then, in true Scruffy fashion, at 5:15 p.m. I headed to Lincoln Speedway to race with the boys.

I made it just in time for the drivers’ meeting and didn’t miss a beat.

Cam, myself, and the boys went to work like we always do, and before long we found ourselves in position to have a chance to win the race. Cam started second, took the lead on lap one of 35, and never looked back.

I couldn’t have been more proud.

Cameron is only 20 years old, but he works hard and drives like a true professional. I truly believe the sky is the limit for him. He’s the kind of driver who’s not afraid to mount tires, change an engine, then climb in and rip 900 horsepower like an absolute badass.

In the same day, I got to meet my son and celebrate a win at the place where it all started for the 1a car.. Lincoln Speedway.

I want to say thank you to Cameron Smith, Tim Glatfelter, Tanner Laughman, Richard Lupo, and Jeff Spaulding. Thank you for your hard work, commitment, and dedication to this team. I truly couldn’t do it without you guys.

Without Scruffy, none of this would exist. None of it would be possible.

I carry my dad with me every single day. It still hurts, and it probably always will. But thinking about him gives me strength to keep digging, keep fighting, and keep moving forward.

Racing takes an army. You truly can never say “thank you” enough because it takes every single person to make this possible. I didn’t fully realize that until this year, and I couldn’t be more grateful for everyone who has supported this team. No one owes you anything, yet so many people have gone above and beyond for us.

Excellent driving this weekend from this guy! Proud of Ashton. I also appreciate the long hours of work, dedication and focus out of the guys preparing and working on the race car. My dad would be proud and excited about last nights race.

Today’s a new day - couple days left here in Florida before heading to Alabama.
