Last Sunday we hosted the first Community Asset Mapping Session for Ashland–Cherryland — a quiet afternoon of naming what already lives here.
Asset mapping is the practice of identifying the skills, resources, and relationships already present in a community before deciding what's missing. It starts with what's here. Not what's broken.
Neighbors, organizers, and County staff sat at the same table and built out the categories together — individuals, associations, institutions, physical assets, exchanges, culture. Real names. Real
places. Real things.
Plantify was named as one of those assets.
Thank you to Alameda County Library, the Office of Sustainability, the Community Development Agency, and Forestr for convening this — and for choosing Paradise Community Garden as the first place to do it.
More to come. This was a beginning.

What is Asset Mapping?
Asset Mapping is a collaborative process where community members come together to identify and visually map the strengths, resources, relationships, and opportunities that already exist within their neighborhood and community. Your voice, experiences, and ideas matter!
This gathering is an opportunity to:
✨ Share community knowledge
✨ Identify local resources and strengths
✨ Help shape future community resilience efforts
✨ Connect with neighbors and local organizations
A Spanish interpreter will be available at this event. Light refreshments will be provided.
Please RSVP in advance as space is limited:

This Earth Day, we’re reflecting on this year’s theme: Our Power, Our Planet 🌎
For us, power doesn’t start with policy—it starts with people.
It starts with slowing down on a trail, noticing the plants around us, learning their names, their roles, their stories. It starts with community—walking together, asking questions, reconnecting with the ecosystems we’re a part of.
And from that connection, something deeper grows.
That same curiosity turns into care.
That care turns into action.
From community nature walks to hands-on native plant restoration, we’re seeing how small, local experiences can grow into meaningful impact—restoring habitats, supporting biodiversity, and strengthening our relationship with the land.
This is the work we’re continuing to build:
spaces where people don’t just learn about nature—but become part of its stewardship.
Our power is collective.
And it’s already in motion 🌱
Yesterday felt… really special. 🍲🌿
144 of you—neighbors, friends, families, partners, and first-timers—came together and *stayed*. Not just a quick stop, but time spent lingering, talking, laughing, and connecting. That’s something we don’t take lightly.
We shared warm bowls of soup, fresh salad and vegetables grown by our Grow With Us program. We had meaningful moments together, listening to music, hanging out with the goats, and enjoying the garden.
Around the space, so much was unfolding:
✨ Community voices were gathered to help shape the future of the East Bay Regional Parks and climate-resilient communities
✨ Stories were shared at our Stone Soup corner
✨ Garden tours and crop exhibits connected folks to what we’ve been growing (and learning) this winter
✨ Partners and collaborators brought their presence into the space
It was a day full of connection, curiosity, and care—for each other and for the land.
Thank you to everyone who showed up, shared a meal, and made this space feel so welcoming. And deep gratitude to our partners and to Alameda County Housing & Community Development for making this gathering possible.
More moments like this, please. 💛
