🚨 HOMESTEAD POLICE ENCOUNTER CAUGHT ON CAMERA 👀

A vehicle burglary investigation in Homestead turned into a tense encounter after police detained resident Esteban “Steven” Schmidt near his home.

Ring camera footage shows Schmidt repeatedly asking officers why he was being detained and declining to answer questions.

Police said they were investigating a stolen cellphone and weapon taken from a vehicle after the phone reportedly pinged near the 100 block of SE 33rd Place.

According to police, Schmidt later returned the cellphone to its owner at a Homestead shopping center and said his father-in-law had found it near a road. Officers ultimately left, and Schmidt remained free.

📅 The encounter happened January 15, 2022.

👀 DO YOU AGREE, HOMESTEAD?

These retail spaces opened in 2019. Years later, many are still sitting empty. So what’s keeping businesses from moving in? 🤔

Is it the rent? Leasing terms? Management? Location? Or is there something else going on?

🏬 With South Florida continuing to grow, seeing commercial spaces remain vacant raises questions.
