Prior to BCS, Coach Schneigert proudly served in the US military. After his service, he received the Illinois Veterans Grant, which allowed him to attend Southern Illinois University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Radio and Television News Broadcasting with a minor in Public Relations. Coach Schneigert worked as a substitute teacher and in special education, in addition to coaching at the high school and collegiate levels, in the Chicago area.

Coach Schneigert finds “being a part of [the kids] formation serving God” to be the most rewarding part of his job. He enjoys running and is a Chicago Cubs fan. The Schneigerts have two children who attend high school in Irving and a Black Mouth Cur named Luna.

Coach Schneigert says his father has had the greatest impact on his life. “He escaped from communist Poland in 1972 after being jailed for one week for speaking out about his views on the communist government. He came to this country on political asylum with only $5 in his pocket and no English spoken. He raised me to respect people with dignity and love.”

CONDOLENCES | LSCSN learned on Tuesday via family friend Jim Duffer that longtime Houston Broadway Baptist and Pasadena Faith Christian coach Mike Wycough had passed away, but waited until we were able to share Mike's full obituary below.

Mike's coaching at Broadway Baptist pre-dated my start of covering and promoting private and parochial school athletics in January 1994, but few were as passionate about their kids as Mike and fellow coach Roy Falke.

FOOTBALL | Dumps might not have been the best word to describe a 7-0 win, but a 34-yard pass to E Art Auringer from QB Bill Donohoo won it for the Vikings.

63 years ago was the first game in a series that Nolan leads over the Cardinals, 12 games to 10.

They meet in week 3.

Fort Worth Nolan and Fort Worth Christian haven't met on the gridiron since 2005.

The Cardinals won the last meeting, 40-37, as QB Jordan Zier led the way with four rushing TDs, 93 yards on the ground and 120 threw the air.

While the series was on-again, off-again, it was mostly always competitive, including a 21-14 Nolan win on overtime in 2003.

The teams were in the same district from 1992-1995 and in the same classification in 1991, meeting in the TAPPS 3A quarterfinal where the Cardinals won 25-22.

Richard Bohac was a three-sport athlete and 1969 graduate of Wichita Falls Notre Dame High School and later returned as the school's head football coach from 1975-1978, following his head football coach Bob Gore's eight-year run as the leader of the Knights.

Ask almost anyone who knows the Highland Park school district about Richard Bohac, and they’ll have a story to tell.

Over nearly five decades in the community, Richard Bohac was a steady presence in many lives. Whether you knew him as an assistant principal, a coach for the Highland Park football team, an educator, or a friend, you quickly learned he was far more than his job title.

He was a big man with a booming voice. You could hear him from the other side of the school and if he spotted you skipping class, there was no running away. He was even called the Manhunter during his years at the high school. Maybe you were skipping gym or maybe you were skipping a history class — either way, he’d spot you, crook his finger and say something like “get on over here, now,” with that thick Waxahachie accent.

However, under that booming voice and towering frame, Mr. Bohac was nothing but a “gooey teddy bear.” If you weren’t in trouble, he’d love to stop and chat. He liked to hear what was going on in students’ lives. He wanted to be someone they knew they could go to for help. He valued the trust parents, kids, and teachers placed in him.

“He was the most open hearted and caring person ever,” former student Aidan Fisher said.

FOOTBALL | Congratulations to two former Texas private and parochial school HFCs in Lawrence Sampleton (Austin St. Michael's; 1989-90 and Austin St. Stephen's; 1991-94, 2005) and Malcolm Brown (Austin St. Dominic Savio; 2024-25).

FOOTBALL | 1963 saw Dallas Bishop Dunne march 87 yards in the fourth quarter to salvage a tie against Nolan - capped off by a 1-yard TD run from Jim Brown (his second score).

Dunne was 30-18-1 in its first five years under Bob Decrosta, who went on to coach at Bishop Lynch.

This year's game between Dallas Bishop Dunne and Fort Worth Nolan - in week 1 - will be the 56th meeting between the two teams.

Nolan leads the series, 30-24-1.

The Vikings had won 13 straight times between 2000-2012 before the Falcons reeled off the next five straight - 2013-2018 - during HC Michael Johnson's tenure.

One series highlight saw future Texas Private School Sports Hall of Fame RB Horace Ivory run for 296 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carriers in a Viking win over Dunne on November 19, 1971.
