Sometimes children don't have the words to explain what they're feeling.

Sometimes “I'm fine” means I don't know how to talk about it.

Sometimes anger is covering hurt.
Sometimes silence is asking for someone to notice.
Sometimes pushing people away is really a fear of being left.

Children who have experienced trauma may communicate their needs in ways that aren't always easy to understand.

That's why listening matters.

Listen without rushing to fix.
Listen without judgment.
Listen with patience.
Listen with the goal of understanding—not simply responding.

When we create safe spaces for children to share what they're feeling, we're reminding them:

💚 Your voice matters.
💚 Your feelings matter.
💚 You matter.

This September, as we recognize Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, we're reminded that connection matters. Being a trusted, caring adult can help a child know they don't have to face difficult moments alone.

Hear the child. Make space for their voice. Let them know they matter.

Because every child deserves to be seen, heard, and loved.

Today, Kidz Thrive had the privilege of receiving our check from the Fore The Kids & Paws Charity Golf Tournament, and our hearts are incredibly grateful! ⛳️💙

A special thank you to Mark Hammond the Texas Mortgage Guy and his lovely assistant, Cynthi, for coming out to personally present the check and for all the hard work that went into making this event such a success.

We are also deeply grateful for every sponsor, volunteer, golfer, donor, coordinator, and supporter who played a part. Your generosity is making a tangible difference in the lives of children in foster care.

These funds will help Kidz Thrive support the needs of new and incoming foster homes, foster parent training, and so much more as we work to strengthen families and create safe, loving environments for children.

For children who have experienced trauma, loss, or disruption, having a safe and trusted adult can make a meaningful difference. Sometimes a child may not have the words to say, “I’m struggling.” Their behavior may be communicating what they cannot yet express.

That’s why we choose to see the child—not just the behavior.

👀 See beyond what you see on the surface.
👂 Hear without judgment.
🤝 Support with consistency and connection.
🌱 Help them thrive by reminding them they are loved and they matter.

You don't have to have all the answers. Sometimes being the person who listens, stays, and refuses to give up is a powerful place to start.

A child in foster care may communicate pain through behavior rather than words.
A post could say:
What if the behavior is telling us something the child doesn't know how to say?
The child who is angry may be hurting.
The child who pushes you away may be afraid to trust.
The child who shuts down may not know how to ask for help.
Foster care reminds us that behavior is communication.
This September, we're taking time to SEE THE CHILD—not just the behavior.
To look closer.
To listen longer.
To create a safe place for children to be honest about what they're feeling.
