Hope Hooves Rescue

We had an eventful morning here at GG! Our Resident Ambassador and former NYC Carriage horse, Harlem, found himself in a tricky spot in his stall. Thankfully, our TLAR team did what they do best and jumped into action, helping Harlem out and onto his feet!

It’s a good Monday because Valentine has been adopted! And not just by anyone, she has been adopted by one of our mule-experienced Board Trustees! Today is the first segment of a 3-part haul to get her up to Big Timber, Montana where she will have so much pasture space, and many other mule and horse friends! Our last update was of Valentine at the vet for a medical checkup, her owner will continue working closely with us to rehabilitate Valentine’s mind and body before restarting her saddle training. 💙

Poor Tommy, our most recent rescue. His health does not appear to be improving, and we think it’s because of his extremely neglected teeth. I was hoping to get through the quarantine period before investigating further, but he is showing trouble eating today. Here he is in the chute before getting some meds to hold him over until the morning when our vet will be out to do a full work-up on him. Donations always help, thank you.

These two are loaded up bright and early! The white one, Ariel, has been adopted and her new owner has also volunteered to train Digby! While our Refuge normally requires a mule to be fully trained to be adoptable, there is an extra application process for those who are qualified to do the training on their own. Ariel’s owner met her when she came to Lost Meadows to help a friend pick up their mule for our 2022 Mule Training Challenge and instantly fell in love with her. She has spent a few months setting up her property just right to be able to take Ariel and work with her. While she has horses and donkeys, we decided it would help Ariel to have a familiar friend for awhile. I am excited to see the progress of these two! 💙

Bambi, Benny, Magnolia, Hendrix, Dylan, Toby and Bruce have arrived in VA! These mules have been fully trained for 6+ months to be easily caught, lead, stand tied, pick up feet, stand for a farrier and load into a trailer! They will be available to pickup at MuleFest on October 1st with a pre-approved application. 💙

This handsome Belgian draft horse gelding and the beautiful Norwegian Fjord Horse mare will never see an auction house from the inside again!

Just like us, Margie Diaz and The Norwegian Fjord Horse Rescue Network sees the importance of getting these beautiful souls away from horse traders and out of the auction pipeline, which is exactly what we did today.
We don’t know anything about them yet, but we’ll get to know them day by day in the weeks to come❤️🐴❤️

Never have I been so much at a loss for words as this past week.
I want to give a big shout out to Justin & Amber Johnstone as well as Greg & Lynn Marchant who were an important part of “Operation Goliath & Friends” and who helped bring them to safety.
While there is no more looking back now and while I want to leave the past in the past and only look forward, especially knowing that there are other horses that still need to be removed from “Over the Hill Equine Rescue”, I will voice my utmost disgust over the fact that not one time, NOT ONCE over the past week have I heard either of these women say I’m
Sorry or show any regret whatsoever about what they have done. None.
Instead it was all about cover-up. More lies. And more betrayal. It is one thing when a rescue is started with good intentions and does not succeed for lack of donations and support, but it’s another if lying and cheating is involved and one runs off to a new life leaving horses behind to fend for themselves. It’s disgusting. And meanwhile, Facebook goes on about showing “happy wife, happy life”, as if nothing ever happened, yet horses that were made a promise to are all but forgotten … it’s a disgrace.
Like how much cover up does one think they can do? A lot, apparently.
We are going to look forward from here on out, Team 1 Horse. Our Goliath has been fully vet checked and is on a re-feeding program, as are the other four that came with us.
Needless to say and thanks to a beautiful partnership, Margie Diaz dis not hesitate one moment when I asked her and The Norwegian Fjord Horse Rescue Network to step up for the Fjord Cross, Ginger. Thank you for that Margie🐴❤️
Yesterday our amazing farrier David Whitlow of Blackfoot Horseshoeing made a special trip just for these five, how awesome is that??
Everyone got on the table for a much needed trim and I know they are feeling so much better. I mean, the pictures alone speak volumes!
And for anyone that says now that these horses didn’t have access to a trimming table where they were at: yes they did. The table farrier works in their area two hours away regularly and all they had to do was reach out to him. Yet they chose not to.
They failed these horses on each account. Each. Single. One.💔🐴🙏🏻
