Apparently moving into a new studio wasn’t quite expensive enough, so the universe decided we also needed an impressive stack of vet bills. 🫠🐾

The good news: Pippi had an echocardiogram this week to investigate her heart murmur, and she doesn’t need heart medication at this time. 🎉

The not-so-good news: Trixie hasn’t been feeling well, so we headed back to the vet. X-rays found a mass in her abdomen. Next up is an ultrasound to figure out exactly what we’re dealing with, plus an echocardiogram because of her CHF to determine whether she can safely undergo anesthesia if surgery is needed.

So, I’m doing something I don’t do very often:

VET BILL FLASH SALE 🐾✨

If you’ve been eyeing a tooth gem, a piece of jewelry, or a fancy little ID tag for your own ride-or-die, this weekend is a particularly good time to do it. You get something shiny, and I get to hand an alarming amount of money to my favorite veterinary specialists. 😂

Thank you for supporting my very small businesses and, by extension, my very small dogs. ❤️🐾

Feel free to DM or text me with any questions.

Best,
Melody

Thank you to everyone who came to the Battle Royale Tattoo HTX bon voyage party to say goodbye (but hopefully not forever) on Saturday. This is the transitional chaos but the goal is to have this at least 90% set up by tomorrow. 🥵 I look forward to seeing you at 1907 Sabine Street #107, Houston, TX 77007 very soon! 💖

People keep asking me, “How’s the move going?”

Any sane person would assume I’m over here packing boxes.

Absolutely not. 😂

I’m in full crafting mode.

I’ve been trying to be really intentional about what I bring into the new studio. I don’t want to fill it with a bunch of brand-new stuff just for the sake of filling space. I want it to feel collected, interesting, a little old, a little weird, and very Fortuitous.

So naturally, instead of packing, I’m upcycling old frames into jewelry displays, sewing velvet inserts, and using velvet curtains to reupholster antique chairs.

Is this the most efficient way to move a business? Probably not.

Am I having a great time? Absolutely.

The boxes will get packed eventually. 😬

Something exciting is happening.

After years of creating jewelry behind the scenes and meeting clients from a tiny display case, Fortuitous Fine Jewelry is getting a place to call home.

Beginning September 1, you'll find me inside Sabine Street Studios in Sawyer Yards.

The new studio will be home to:

✨ Custom jewelry design
✨ Jewelry repair & restoration
✨ Permanent jewelry
✨ Houston Tooth Gems
✨ A growing collection of fine jewelry you can finally shop in person

I'm spending the next few weeks moving, building, and putting the finishing touches on a space that feels like Fortuitous Fine Jewelry in every way.

I can't wait to open the door and welcome you in.
See you September 1. 💖

Dogs are absolute professionals when it comes to finding the one thing you really don't want them to chew. Shoes, glasses... and gold jewelry. 😅

This nameplate necklace came to me after a run-in with an enthusiastic four-legged "jewelry critic." The gold nameplate was bent, cracked, and twisted.
I carefully straightened and repaired the nameplate. My client decided to upgrade to a solid gold chain for everyday wear. I also repaired the original demi-fine chain, so instead of ending up in a drawer in pieces, it can still be worn on its own.

I love repairs like this. Sometimes all a favorite piece needs is a little patience, a torch, and someone who refuses to give up on it. ❤️

Have your pets ever destroyed something you loved? Tell me I'm not the only one hearing these stories all the time. 😂

For years, Fortuitous Fine Jewelry has lived inside this little display case.

It wasn't much bigger than a bookshelf, but it represented something much bigger.
Every custom ring, heirloom redesign, repair, and permanent bracelet started here.

What most people didn't see was everything happening behind the scenes.
The late nights at my bench.
Countless hours practicing and refining my craft.
Boxes arriving with stones and castings ready to be transformed by hand.
Twenty years of learning, problem-solving, and figuring things out one piece at a time.

This display case was never the whole business. It was just the tiny window into it.

Next month, that's going to change.

For the first time, Fortuitous Fine Jewelry will have a space of its own. A place where we can sit down together, design meaningful jewelry, browse pieces in person, and experience the business beyond the display case.

This little cabinet at helped build something I'm incredibly proud of, and I'll always be grateful for where it all began.

I can't wait to welcome you into the next chapter.

Three videos. Countless hours at the bench. One family heirloom ready for another lifetime.

When Sarah brought me her great-grandfather’s ring, the gold had worn paper-thin from decades of love and everyday wear. The stone was barely being held in place, and its exposed corners had already been chipped.

Walking away would have been the safer choice.

Instead, we chose to preserve the ring that had already meant so much to her family.

I rebuilt the worn settings with fresh gold, replaced part of the shank to restore its strength, resized it, and gave it the structure it needed to be worn every day again.

This isn’t about making an old ring look brand new. It’s about honoring its history while making sure it can become part of someone else’s. ❤️

If you have a family heirloom tucked away because it feels too fragile to wear, I’d love to help you explore what’s possible.

Most jewelry repairs don’t start with a polishing cloth.

They start looking… well… kind of ugly.

Once the stone was safely removed, I filed away decades of worn metal and fabricated new gold bars to replace the ones that had worn paper-thin. After soldering, the ring was dark, oxidized, and honestly looked worse than when I started. That’s completely normal.

The magic isn’t in one big transformation. It’s in hundreds of small, careful decisions that slowly bring a piece back to life.

By the end of this stage, the new gold had been shaped, sanded, polished, and the stone was ready to go back where it belonged.

Next up: the before-and-after reveal of Sarah’s great-grandfather’s ring. I can’t wait for you to see the transformation. ✨
