AJC Rescue & Transport
Our mission is to rescue and rehabilitate dogs and cats of all breeds and ages and find them loving homes throughout the country.
We operate transport to aid our efforts of finding the best forever homes for the animals we save. My team and I strive to provide the most caring, safe and professional transport service, for rescue & personal dogs, from Houston to northern states, in order to give these animals their chance at wonderful lives with loving forever families. TERMS OF SERVICE
We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit rescue & transport group and our transport is part of our rescue fundraising activity, meaning all proceeds after expenses, are used to fund the saving and vetting of more dogs. We currently service mainly the Northeast/New England area and the Midwest (Chicago/Michigan/Ohio)
We operate a Mercedes Sprinter Van and all dogs are transported in Airline crates, in accordance with USDA guidelines. Our rates are structured as follows:
$220 per dog up to 100 lbs
$275 per dog over 100 lbs (or tall enough to require a 38” crate or larger)
$300 per nursing mom with litter up to 4 weeks old
$350 per nursing mom with litter 4-6 weeks old
(Additional fee of $100 per crate applies for litters of more than 6 puppies)
$220 per crate for puppies over 6 weeks old and no longer nursing, no more than 2 puppies per crate as long as puppies are under 20 lbs each. Above 20 lbs, the individual crate rate applies. These rates are for dogs originating in the greater Houston area. Other pick up locations are available with prior arrangement and additional fee based on location and quantity of dog loading at that location. We utilize the following Jotform for bookings. Unless your booking has been received via this form, we cannot guarantee that a crate has been reserved. If a booking is received and we are fully booked for the date you are requesting, we will contact you right away. 🚨🐾 WE NEED OUR VILLAGE — AND WE’RE ASKING FOR HELP. 🐾🚐
Our breakdown in Arkansas last weekend taught us some difficult but incredibly important lessons.
When we purchased our transport bus, we truly believed it was the next step forward for AJC Rescue & Transport. It gave us the space to transport more animals at once, and after years of squeezing every available inch out of vans, that seemed like exactly what we needed.
But sometimes you don’t know what you don’t know — until you’re sitting on the side of I-40 in the middle of the night with 13 dogs and a transmission that has decided it’s officially done participating. 😩
That experience showed us some very real problems with using a bus for animal transport.
🐾 A breakdown requires a heavy-duty wrecker, which is incredibly expensive.
🐾 The bus cannot be towed with animals onboard, so every animal has to be safely removed and transferred first.
🐾 We had 13 dogs with us when we broke down. Had the bus been fully loaded, we would have had a serious problem finding another vehicle capable of safely accommodating everyone.
🐾 The fuel consumption is simply not economical for the distances we travel.
🐾 And most importantly, our air conditioning is dependent on the bus engine. If the engine stops, the AC stops.
Leaving Texas in temperatures that can easily exceed 100 degrees, that last issue is simply a risk we are not willing to take with the lives entrusted to us.
So we’ve made a difficult decision:
The bus is not the right vehicle for our mission.
We will be selling it and moving back to the type of vehicle that has proven to work best for what we do — a high-roof, extended-wheelbase Mercedes Sprinter van.
And we have an opportunity to purchase one RIGHT NOW. ❤️
The Sprinter is $20,000.
We currently have $10,000, leaving us $10,000 short of the purchase price.
We also need approximately $2,000 to install a rooftop AC unit and purchase a generator so that we can maintain climate control for our animals independently of the vehicle’s engine.
❤️ OUR TOTAL GOAL: $12,000 ❤️
$10,000 — Sprinter purchase
$2,000 — Rooftop AC & generator
We will be selling the bus and putting those funds right back into our rescue and transport mission, but selling a vehicle takes time.
This opportunity may not wait for us.
So I’m doing something that’s never particularly easy for me:
I’m asking for help.
If you or someone you know would be willing to help us bridge this $12,000 gap through a donation OR a loan, please reach out to me.
Maybe one person can help significantly. Maybe 120 people give $100. Maybe 240 people give $50. Maybe someone is willing to provide a short-term loan until the bus sells.
We are open to every reasonable option and suggestion.
This isn’t about upgrading vehicles.
It’s about taking what we learned from a frightening situation and making sure we don’t put ourselves — or more importantly, the animals depending on us — in that position again.
We transport animals thousands of miles because sometimes the difference between an unwanted Texas dog and a beloved family member is simply a safe ride to where they’re wanted. ❤️
We have the opportunity to purchase the right vehicle.
We just need some help getting across the finish line.
🐾 If you can donate, loan, share, or connect us with someone who might be able to help, PLEASE do.
I would truly hate to watch this opportunity disappear while we’re waiting for the bus to sell.
❤️ $12,000. That’s the goal. Let’s get this Sprinter on the road and keep saving lives. 🚐🐾

🐾🚌 OUR MIDWEST TRANSPORT — ONE WE’LL NEVER FORGET 🚌🐾
We left Houston in our new transport bus headed for destinations throughout the Midwest, carrying 13 precious lives toward their next chapters.
In all our years of transporting rescue animals, this has been one of the most challenging trips on record.
Late at night, while traveling through Forrest City, Arkansas, our bus suffered a transmission failure, leaving us stranded along I-40 with 13 dogs on board.
Thankfully, in the middle of a frightening situation, we found some truly incredible humans. ❤️
We were able to reach roadside mechanic Charles Austill, who came out to help us. Unfortunately, it quickly became clear this wasn’t something that could be repaired on the side of a busy and dangerous interstate.
And that’s when Charles went from being a roadside mechanic to being one of our heroes.
Charles and his friends opened their vehicles, their home and their hearts to us. Together, we transferred 13 dogs—in their crates—into other vehicles and shuttled everyone to safety at Charles’ home.
He literally made room in his living room for our four-legged passengers. 🥹❤️
Meanwhile, back in Houston, my dear friend and fellow rescue director Leah McMaster with Caffeinated Canine Rescue dropped everything.
Leah picked up a van from Best Friends Animal Society and drove nine hours from Houston to Arkansas to rescue the rescuers.
Once she arrived, we loaded all 13 dogs into the van and continued toward the Midwest. Leah then headed back to Houston in a rental truck carrying the rest of our equipment.
Despite everything that happened, every single dog was delivered safely. ❤️
We were exhausted. The dogs were tired. And we arrived about 12 hours later than originally planned.
But we made it.
Transporting rescue animals is incredibly hard work. It’s physically exhausting, stressful and an enormous responsibility. When you have animals depending completely on you, there is no simply throwing your hands up and saying, “Well, I guess we’re done.”
You figure it out.
And somehow, along the way, people like Charles and his friends appear. Friends like Leah drop everything and drive nine hours. People step forward to help simply because animals need them.
Then, at the end of that incredibly long road, we meet adopters who are excited, grateful and committed to giving these dogs the lives they deserve.
Those moments remind us exactly why we keep doing this.
To everyone who checked on us, offered help, rearranged schedules, waited patiently for arrivals, encouraged us and supported us throughout this ordeal—THANK YOU.
We are humbled by the kindness we received and incredibly grateful that our 13 passengers are safely where they needed to be. ❤️🐾
Unfortunately, now comes the painful part.
Our beautiful new transport bus needs a new transmission, and the preliminary estimate is approximately $5,000–$6,000. 💔
For a small nonprofit rescue, an unexpected expense of this size hits HARD.
Charles arranged to have our bus towed while we continued the transport. Once he has had an opportunity to fully inspect it, we’ll have a better idea of the final repair cost and how long it will take to get our bus back on the road.
If you’ve ever wanted to support the work we do, we could truly use you right now.
Every $5, $10, $25 or $50 donation adds up. Every share helps. Every person who believes that these animals deserve a chance helps keep this mission moving—sometimes quite literally. 🚌🐾

🐾❤️ VET DAY… TIMES THREE! …..or actually 13!!❤️🐾
It’s been a busy couple of days for Greer, Vasca & Cataleya! These three are officially one big step closer to healthy, happy futures and finding their forever families. 🥰
All three are now spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped! 🎉
Our newest intake, sweet little Vasca, came to us after being dumped on the streets of East Houston. Sadly, we discovered she was also infested with fleas and has hookworms, so we’re treating those issues too. This little girl has already been through enough, and from here on out, she gets to know what it means to be cared for. ❤️
And we need to give a HUGE shoutout to Dr. Hanna and her incredible team at Houston Spay Neuter! 👏🐾
In just the last TWO DAYS, they have provided care for 13 animals in our rescue — spaying/neutering, vaccinating, microchipping and making sure each one received the medical care they needed.
THIRTEEN animals. TWO days. 😳❤️
We are incredibly grateful for the compassion and care they give our rescue animals every time we walk through their doors.
Of course, getting 13 animals vetted in two days also means the rescue bank account is feeling it. 😂💸 Vetting, medications, preventatives, food, supplies and ongoing care add up quickly.
If you’d like to help us keep saying YES when the next Greer, Vasca or Cataleya needs us, we would be incredibly grateful. Every $5, $10 or $20 helps us keep doing this work. 🐾

🐾❤️ MEET XENA! ❤️🐾
2-Year-Old German Shepherd • Female • Spayed • Dog Friendly
Meet Xena — a gorgeous 2-year-old German Shepherd with beauty, brains, personality and approximately 47 things she would like to accomplish before lunch. 😂
Xena once had a family of her own. Like so many puppies, she was adorable, fluffy and relatively easy when she was little. Then she grew up and became exactly what German Shepherds are supposed to become — an intelligent, active young working-breed dog who needs more out of life than a backyard and someone occasionally throwing a tennis ball.
Her family realized they weren’t equipped to meet those needs, so Xena came to us for a fresh start.
And this girl is thriving. ❤️
Xena currently lives with an experienced German Shepherd foster and shares her home with a large group of foster and resident dogs. She plays and socializes with them daily and gets along beautifully with everyone.
Basically, she has a larger friend group than most humans. 😂
🐾 Xena’s impressive résumé includes:
❤️ Approximately 2 years old
🐕 Very dog friendly and well socialized
🏠 Potty trained
🛏️ Crate trained
🦮 Leash trained
🧠 Knows several commands
🦴 Treat motivated — because apparently payment is required for services rendered
💉 Vaccinated
✂️ Spayed
📍 Microchipped
🥰 Loving, social and affectionate
Xena has all the potential to become an absolutely incredible companion for the right family.
But we need to be clear: Xena is a German Shepherd.
She has opinions.
She has energy.
She has a brain that would very much like something productive to do.
And she will probably notice the Amazon delivery driver approximately three minutes before you do. 😂
Xena needs a family who understands working breeds and is committed to providing the structure, consistency, exercise, mental stimulation and social interaction these incredibly smart dogs need.
Her “job” doesn’t have to involve apprehending criminals or protecting national security. 😂 She would be perfectly happy hiking, learning new commands, doing obedience work, playing enrichment games, going on adventures or simply being actively involved in her family’s daily life.
What she doesn’t want is to spend her life bored and under-stimulated.
Give Xena leadership, engagement and a purpose, and she has everything it takes to become that incredibly loyal German Shepherd who thinks her humans hung the moon.
🏡 A fully fenced, secure yard is required.
If you’re looking for a low-energy decorative dog who will quietly blend into the furniture… Xena respectfully suggests you keep scrolling. 😂
But if you want a beautiful, intelligent, social, adventurous companion who is ready to learn, explore and become a true member of your family?
Xena might just be your girl. ❤️🐾
Xena is currently being fostered in Texas but available to transport to approved adopter in the Midwest, Northeast and Canada.
$400 Adoption fee includes vaccinations, Spay/Neuter, microchip, deworming,
$300 fee for Transport and vet/documentation requirements in preparation for transport.

🐾❤️ RUSTY & OPHELIA UPDATE ❤️🐾
Just a few days ago, Rusty and Ophelia were on the side of a busy highway in west Houston—hot, hungry, thirsty and in a very dangerous situation.
Thanks to some incredibly determined Good Samaritans, they made it off that highway and into safety. And thanks to a wonderful foster who opened their home to them, these two are officially getting the fresh start they deserve. 🥰
Today was vet day! 🩺🐾
Both Rusty and Ophelia went in for their spay/neuter appointments, vaccinations and medical care.
Unfortunately, we also received some news we had hoped not to hear…
💔 Ophelia tested positive for heartworms.
Heartworm disease is serious, but it is treatable. We have already started Ophelia on treatment, and we will see her through every step of it. This sweet girl survived life on the side of a Houston highway—we’re certainly not going to let heartworms stand between her and the wonderful life waiting for her. ❤️
As for these two mystery mutts…
🐶 Ophelia appears to be a delightful combination of a little bit of this, a little bit of that, and absolutely adorable. 😂 We honestly have no idea what breeds went into making her, but the recipe worked.
🐶 Rusty appears to be a Corgi mix, complete with those shorter legs and a face that looks like he already has opinions about how this household should be run. 😂
We don’t know their exact ages, but both are estimated to be around 5 years old.
For now, their only jobs are to heal, decompress, eat good food, sleep somewhere safe and learn what it feels like to be cared for. Their foster will also be helping us learn more about their personalities as they settle in.
Once they are healthy and ready, Rusty and Ophelia will both be available for adoption. 🏡❤️
Ophelia’s heartworm diagnosis also means an unexpected additional medical expense for the rescue. If you would like to help us cover her treatment and the veterinary care for both of these sweet pups, every donation—no matter the amount—helps us continue saying YES when animals like Rusty and Ophelia desperately need someone.
From the side of a highway to safe in a foster home.
Their story could have ended very differently.
Instead, this is just the beginning. ❤️🐾

🐾 Meet Zeus — Good Boy. Ball Addict. Professional Fun Coordinator. 🎾😂
Zeus is 10 months old, which means he has reached that magical stage of life where he has learned the household rules…but still occasionally believes they are merely suggestions. 😂
Fortunately, this handsome boy is actually VERY well behaved.
Zeus is:
🏠 Potty trained
🛏️ Crate trained
🦮 Leash trained
✂️ Neutered
💉 Vaccinated
❤️ Heartworm negative
🐶 Great with other dogs
👨👩👧 Good with adults and children
🎾 Completely, utterly and unapologetically obsessed with BALLS
We should probably discuss that last one.
Zeus is BALL DRIVEN.
Throw the ball? He gets it.
Throw it again? Absolutely.
Again? Obviously.
Were you planning to do something else today?
That sounds like poor planning on your part. 🎾😂
Zeus loves following his person around with his ball, just waiting for you to recognize that you have been selected for another round of fetch. He genuinely loves playing with his humans, so if you’ve always wanted a personal trainer who accepts payment in tennis balls, congratulations. You’ve found him.
Zeus is an active, social and well-socialized young guy who gets along wonderfully with other dogs. He enjoys having canine friends, loves being around people and is always ready to participate in whatever is happening.
Nobody asked Zeus to participate.
Zeus participates anyway. 😂
He eats his meals in his crate and is comfortable settling there, so he already has some excellent household manners. He’s also potty trained and leash trained, which means you get all the fun of a goofy adolescent dog without starting completely from scratch.
Zeus is good with children, but because he is a young, enthusiastic and exuberant boy, we recommend children over 12 years old.
There is absolutely no malice in this dog.
There is, however, momentum. 😂
🏡 Zeus’ Forever Home Wish List
✔️ Active humans
✔️ Plenty of playtime
✔️ Continued training and adventures
✔️ A fully fenced yard — required
✔️ Possibly another friendly dog
✔️ Children 12+
✔️ Someone with a functioning throwing arm
✔️ A suspiciously large tennis-ball budget 🎾
Zeus would be perfect for an active family looking for a happy, affectionate, social young dog who wants to be part of the action.
He’s handsome.
He’s trained.
He’s social.
He’s fully vetted.
And he is prepared to bring his own ball to this relationship.
Honestly, what more could you ask for? 😂❤️
Zeus is ready for his forever family.
You bring the home. He’ll bring the ball. 🎾🏡❤️
Zeus is currently being fostered in Texas but available to transport to approved adopter in the Midwest, Northeast and Canada.
$400 Adoption fee includes vaccinations, Spay/Neuter, microchip, deworming,
$300 fee for Transport and vet/documentation requirements in preparation for transport.

🚌🐾 SHE DID IT!!! OUR BUS HAS OFFICIALLY COMPLETED HER FIRST TRANSPORT! 🐾🚌
Our first New England transport of September 2026 is officially in the books — and this one was extra special. ❤️
After nearly 18 months of planning, fundraising, hard work, setbacks, repairs, and a whole lot of determination, our new transport bus finally hit the road for her inaugural rescue transport.
And we are VERY happy to report…
SHE PERFORMED BEAUTIFULLY! 🎉🙌🚌
This journey took us from Houston ➡️ Dallas ➡️ North Carolina ➡️ Virginia ➡️ Maryland ➡️ Pennsylvania ➡️ New Jersey ➡️ Connecticut ➡️ Vermont ➡️ and finally Upstate New York.
Thousands of miles.
Multiple states.
A bus full of precious cargo. 🐶🐱❤️
And families waiting at stops along the way to finally meet the animals they had already fallen in love with.
THIS is exactly why we worked so hard to make this bus a reality.
It isn’t just a bus.
It’s a lifeline between homeless Texas animals and the families waiting for them across the country. ❤️
Every mile represents an animal who got another chance. Every stop represents a family becoming complete. And every successful transport opens another foster space back in Texas so we can say YES to another animal who needs us.
Seeing this bus finally doing exactly what we dreamed it would do was pretty emotional. 🥹
To everyone who donated, shared our posts, supported our fundraisers, helped with the conversion, cheered us on, and believed that we could make this happen — YOU helped put this bus on the road.
And this was only Trip #1. 🚌💨🐾
Now we keep rolling. ❤️

🎉🐾 CALLIE IS ADOPTED!!! 🐾🎉
This one hits us right in the heart. ❤️
Callie spent the first part of her life as a breeding dog. When she became too old to continue producing puppies—and therefore no longer profitable—she was discarded.
But Callie’s worth was never determined by how many puppies she could produce. And thankfully, her story didn’t end there.
She came into rescue, landed in a loving foster home, and finally got to experience something every dog deserves: being cared for simply because she matters. 🥹❤️
Then came the best part…
🚌 On Thursday evening, this gorgeous little Frenchie climbed aboard the AJC transport bus and began her journey from Texas all the way to Connecticut, where a wonderful family had been patiently waiting for her.
And when that bus door opened… there they were. 🥰
No more breeding.
No more being valued for profit.
No more wondering what happens next.
Now Callie gets to be somebody’s baby. ❤️
She gets couches and blankets. Belly rubs and snuggles. A family who thinks she is absolutely priceless—and expects nothing from her except to simply be Callie.
From discarded breeder dog ➡️ cherished family member.
THAT is why we rescue.
THAT is why we foster.
THAT is why we drive thousands of miles.
And THAT is why every single difficult day is worth it. 🐾
Happy Life, sweet Callie! 🥹❤️
May the rest of your life be filled with all the love and affection you should have had all along.
🏡 Texas ➡️ Connecticut ➡️ HOME
If you’d like to help us give another dog or cat their own ending like Callie’s, please consider donating, fostering, adopting or sharing. Every bit of support helps us keep saying YES to the next animal who needs us. 🐾❤️
