Congratulations to one of our 2022 Artist Career Empowerment Grantees Horacio Rodriguez!

Horacio Rodriguez is an artist and educator originally from Houston, Texas. After spending the summers in high school wandering the streets of Houston's Museum district and taking art classes, he dedicated himself to a career in the arts by majoring first in photography before finding his true passion: ceramics and sculpture.

Horacio's project, The BoomBox Show, raises funds and awareness for the arts and social justice causes centered around the theme, “Giving Voice to Those Who have been Silenced”. This artistic and curatorial effort involves a collaboration between ten artists in support of ten local non-profits. The project will culminate in a six-week show and auction at the Museum of Contempoary Arts (UMOCA) in January of 2023.

This ceramic sculpture is made from and . Yes, the wick is made out of porcelain too! Atop its shiny red glaze is a custom decal made from a image of a guy pi***ng on the border wall. Above that in 22k is the phrase being pelted with bombs.
