🚨BREAKING: The comic book community is mourning the loss of Joshua Cassara, whose incredible artwork helped define one of the most memorable eras of modern X-Men comics.

Cassara became especially beloved for his work on X-Force during the Krakoa era, where his dynamic storytelling, character work and incredible action sequences made the series a standout. His work on Wolverine, X-Men, X Lives of Wolverine and X Deaths of Wolverine, Deadpool/Wolverine and numerous other Marvel projects showed just how much he had to offer.

For so many readers, Cassara’s art became part of what made the Krakoa era feel so distinct. His work had an energy and intensity that could make a brutal fight feel completely alive, while still giving the characters beneath the action real personality.

And what makes this loss especially heartbreaking is how much more Cassara clearly had ahead of him. He was still creating, still evolving and still leaving his mark on the industry.

His wife has confirmed his passing, and the response from fellow creators and fans has already made clear just how deeply he was loved and respected.

Thank you for the incredible work, Josh. Your art will live on in the pages you left behind and in the memories of everyone who got to experience it.

Rest in peace, Joshua Cassara. 🕊️

John Blanche, the legendary illustrator who defined Warhammer 40,000’s grimdark aesthetic, has passed away, leaving behind a legacy that continues to shape the franchise’s identity even in its upcoming 11th Edition. Blanche’s career with Games Workshop began in the 1970s and spanned decades until his retirement in 2023. His most iconic work, the Emperor on the Golden Throne, remains central to Warhammer’s visual identity and is still being reused in modern editions, underscoring its enduring influence. Trish Carden Miniatures and Design announced his death, describing him as “an inspirational artist, devoted to his family and a good friend to many,” while fellow creators hailed him as the “grandfather of the Grimdark style.” Blanche’s art was never just illustration, it established the visual grammar of Warhammer, shaping how fans and players interpret the universe itself. His belief that the Emperor’s throne image represented what pilgrims saw, rather than the literal Emperor, added layers of myth and debate that still resonate today. Games Workshop continues to draw from Blanche’s work, with his second edition art featured in the Warhammer 40,000 11th Edition box set due later this month. Writers and artists across the industry have paid tribute, noting that his vision defined an entire sub‑genre of science fiction and fantasy.
