Ever knock down a web by the front door, then find a new one there the next morning? 🕸

The porch light might have something to do with it. Moths and other flying bugs love an outdoor light, and for a web-building spider, that’s a pretty good place to set up for dinner. Plenty of orb weavers rebuild their webs every evening, so sweeping one away usually just means a fresh one by morning.

A few things that help:

💡 Turn the light off when you don’t need it, or put it on a motion sensor. A yellow “bug light” or a warm-toned bulb tends to draw fewer insects than a bright white one.
🧹 Brush away webs around the light and the door frame.
🚪 Check the door sweep and weatherstripping. Worn spots can let bugs and the occasional wandering spider inside.

A web or two outside is just part of living in Texas. But if you’re sweeping the same corner every day, step out after sunset and see what’s buzzing around that light.

Tired of the daily web cleanup? We can figure out what’s keeping spiders at your front door. Free inspections at natran.com 🌿

One very Houston thing: October can still feel like summer, and the mosquitoes haven’t gotten the memo either 🦟

Warm days keep them going, and one good rain leaves little pockets of water all over the yard 🌧

After a storm, take a quick lap outside. Tip out plant saucers, kids’ toys, buckets, tarps, and the folds of grill and furniture covers.

For the smaller containers, give them a quick scrub, too. Asian tiger mosquitoes (the small black ones with white stripes) lay their eggs just above the waterline, and those eggs can stay stuck to the sides for months after the water’s gone.

While you’re out there, look under the patio furniture and in the thick shrubs. Adult mosquitoes like to wait out the heat of the day in shady spots like those.

Notice when you get bitten, too. Tiger mosquitoes bite during the day, while the southern house mosquito comes out around dusk. That’s why the patio can be fine at lunch and miserable by dinner.

Still getting eaten alive after you’ve dumped everything out? The water might be somewhere you haven’t looked yet, like a clogged gutter. We can help you find it ✅

If your home is fairly new, mice may not be the first pest you worry about. But a newer home isn’t automatically mouse-proof 🐭🏠

A mouse can squeeze through an opening about 1/4 inch wide - roughly the width of a pencil. That small gap under the garage door or around a utility line may be all it needs to get inside.

Next time you’re in the garage or walking around the house, check for:

🚪 Worn weatherstripping or gaps around the garage door
🔧 Openings around pipes, cables, and utility lines
🌬️ Gaps around vents, eaves, and the roofline
📦 Cluttered storage areas that offer hiding spots
🐾 Pet food, birdseed, or trash that isn’t tightly sealed

Possible signs of mouse activity include small droppings, scratching sounds in walls or ceilings, chewed packaging, and disturbed insulation.

One clue doesn’t necessarily mean you have a major rodent problem. But if the same signs keep showing up, it’s worth finding out where mice may be getting in.

Natran can inspect your home, check likely entry points, and help identify what may be attracting mice to the property.

A quick reminder: most spiders found in and around your home are harmless, and many are actually helpful 🕷️

Spiders feed on flies, mosquitoes, ants, and other insects. However, frequent sightings or new webs may indicate increased insect activity, available hiding places, or easy entry points around your home.

Texas homeowners should also know about medically significant spiders, especially black widows and brown recluses. Bites are uncommon, but avoid handling any spider you can’t confidently identify.

🏡 A few ways to reduce spider activity around your home:
🟢 Clear clutter from garages, sheds, and attics
🟢 Seal gaps around doors, windows, and the foundation
🟢 Turn off unnecessary outdoor lights that attract insects
🟢 Store firewood away from the house
🟢 Trim shrubs and vegetation away from the exterior
🟢 Remove existing webs and egg sacs carefully

Remember: spiders are often a sign of another pest issue rather than the main problem. Reduce the insects that provide their food, and spider activity will often decrease as well.

Seeing more spiders or webs than you’d like? Natran can help homeowners in the Houston and Austin areas identify the conditions that contribute and recommend a thoughtful, targeted solution.

If you’ve been following us for a while, you’ve probably heard us say this before: rodents don’t need much room to get inside 🐀

A small gap around the garage door, worn weatherstripping, or an opening near the frame may be all they need to find their way in.

Garages are one of the first places we check during a rodent inspection because even a gap that looks minor can become an easy entry point.

In this photo, our technician is sealing the upper corner of a garage door as part of a rodent exclusion service. We look for openings rodents may be using and close them off to help keep the problem from continuing.

If you’ve found droppings in the garage, heard scratching, noticed chewed materials, or seen signs of activity near the door, take a closer look around the frame and weatherstripping.

Spotted a roach in the kitchen? It may have come from somewhere you haven’t checked in months 🪳

Roaches love quiet, easy-to-miss spots around the house. Especially when they can find water, shelter, and an easy way inside.

A few places worth checking:
🚰 Under kitchen and bathroom sinks
🔧 Around pipes and plumbing openings
📦 In and around cardboard boxes
🚪 Around gaps under exterior doors
🧺 In garages and utility rooms

A tiny leak gives them water. A stack of boxes gives them a place to hide. And a worn door sweep or gap around a pipe can make getting inside surprisingly easy in Houston’s warm, humid weather 🌧️🏠

If you keep seeing roaches, don’t focus only on the room where they show up. The source of the activity could be tucked away somewhere else.

Natran can help find where they’re coming from and what’s making them feel a little too comfortable in your home.

Ever lie in bed and hear scratching or scurrying above the ceiling? 🐀

One random noise doesn’t automatically mean rodents - houses make plenty of sounds. But if you’re hearing movement night after night, especially after the house gets quiet, it’s worth paying attention.

Other signs may include droppings near stored boxes, gnaw marks on wood or wiring, and insulation that looks flattened, pulled apart, or used for nesting.

Rodents are good at staying out of sight. They can spend weeks in an attic before anyone sees one, all while damaging insulation, chewing materials and looking for ways into other parts of the house.

If your attic has started sounding a little too busy after dark, don’t wait until the signs become obvious. Natran can inspect the space, find out what’s causing the activity, and talk you through the next step ⬇️💚

The rain stopped. Now take five minutes and walk around your yard 🌧️👀

Texas downpours can leave water sitting in places you wouldn’t normally notice. That little bit of water, or one damp, sheltered spot, may be all pests need.

Check these areas before you head back inside:
🪴 Plant saucers, buckets, toys and empty containers
🏠 Gutters and downspouts that are overflowing or holding water
💦 Tarps, pool covers and outdoor cushions
🪑 Under patio furniture and around storage bins
🕳️ Drains and low spots that stay wet
🌳 Shaded areas along fences and around the foundation
🐜 Fresh ant mounds or disturbed soil
🪳 Roaches and other pests moving toward the garage, patio, or covered areas

Dump out anything holding water, clear what you can, and keep an eye on spots that stay wet long after the rest of the yard dries.

By September, it can feel like you’re clearing away the same spider web every morning 🕷️

You knock one down by the porch light, and the next day there’s another near the garage, in a window corner, or tucked under the eaves.

Most of the time, spiders choose these spots because insects are already gathering there. Porch lights, garage lights, and bright windows attract moths, flies, and other bugs at night, giving web-building spiders a reliable place to find food.

💡 If the webs keep coming back, take a look at where they’re showing up. Check around exterior lights, window corners, door frames, covered entryways, and outdoor seating areas. Shrubs and landscaping close to the house can also create sheltered spots where insects gather, with spiders following close behind.

Turning off exterior lights when you’re not using them can help. Timers and motion sensors are useful too, especially around doors and windows. Keeping nearby shrubs trimmed and addressing other insect activity can make these areas less appealing.

A few outdoor webs are normal, especially here in Texas. Spiders also help keep other insects under control. But when the porch, garage, or windows are covered again a day or two after you clean them, there’s probably a steady supply of bugs nearby.

Seeing more webs than usual? Our team can inspect the area and help find out why so many insects are gathering close to your home 🌿💚
