Bear shares a long overdue property update ❤️

Between 2021–2023, we spent a lot of time doing community outreach in Cleveland, TX providing FREE vaccines, microchips, dewormer and spay/neuter to owned dogs. During that time, we helped roughly 6,000 dogs.

We stopped those efforts but missed it too much, so we purchased 3.9 acres in November 2024. We had a vision to create a permanent space where we could bring those efforts back to life.

Unfortunately, we had some hiccups along the way. Although the property itself was completed in January this year, permitting issues stalled us out but we FINALLY reached a resolution and are officially moving forward 😊

There’s been a lot happening behind the scenes even tho we haven’t had much to share publicly. We definitely haven’t forgotten about this project or what we hope to accomplish here.

We’re excited to finally be moving in the right direction and we can’t wait to share more as things continue coming together!

What’s Rudy been up to since leaving the ER?

Overall, he’s continuing to make progress. He’s been going back to the vet every few days for wound care, laser therapy and hydrotherapy. His appointments run about $150-200 each, so they’re adding up quickly.

He’s slowly gaining weight and his wounds are still healing. We recently sent off a culture to make sure he’s on the most effective antibiotic— we hope to have those results tomorrow. We were expecting the tip of his tail to fall off on its own and it did, so that’s healing. One of his leg bandages is being left off for now as it was starting to cause a sore so we’re treating that area with an ointment.

We learned that Rudy is quite the mischievous kiddo and cannot be trusted so he’s earned himself a hard cone. If you see photos of him wearing one, don’t worry, he’s okay! It’s just for his own good while everything continues to heal.

If things keep moving in the right direction, we hope he’ll eventually move to going every four days for bandage changes and laser therapy. But for now, slow & steady progress!

$1,000 goal for Honey 🙏🏼

If you’ve been following us for a while, you may recognize this precious face. Honey came into our care two years ago when she was in desperate need.

Honey was previously owned and lived with a child who placed a rubberband around her neck. The family unfortunately didn’t realize until it became severely embedded and she needed surgery to repair the wound. She was surrendered to the ER clinic and we took over her care.

We got her the care she needed and she’s been living in the same foster home all this time. Because Honey is incredibly fearful of life in general, her fosters are prepared to keep her as a forever foster. That means she’ll stay in the home she knows and feels safest in for as long as she needs while we continue to cover her care/expenses.

With that said, Honey had a small bump pop up on her belly back in February. We’d been monitoring it closely with our vet but it started growing rapidly so we knew it was time for removal.

Honey had that mass removed today along with a few smaller, similar ones. Because she’s an older gal, we wanted to be cautious before putting her under anesthesia so we ran pre-op bloodwork and x-rays to make sure she was safe for surgery. Everything looked great, surgery went well and it’s recovery time now. We also sent the masses off for biopsy so we’ll wait for those results.

Honey’s total came to $1,084.60 and we’d love to get those costs covered! Any amount toward her bill is so appreciated. Every little bit helps us continue providing everything she needs while she stays safe and loved with her forever foster fam. Rudy medical update!

We were planning on him heading home into foster care on Wednesday but he spiked a fever that morning, so the doctors wanted to keep him a little longer to monitor him.

He’s completely off IV fluids, eating well, gaining strength (and weight) and continuing to make progress, so hopefully today’s the big day.

His wounds are continuing to heal. The deeper one on his hip is bandaged up and currently getting changed every 3-4 days while the others are being kept clean and allowed to heal on their own. Unfortunately, the damaged tip of his little tail is expected to fall off on its own 😢 but it’s being monitored and we’re hopeful he won’t need it surgically amputated.

He’s been getting lots of love during his stay by the entire Vergi 24/7 staff and they all adore him so much. It’s safe to say he’s been getting pretty spoiled over there but Rudy certainly has no complaints about that!

Nine days ago, Rudy came to us as a lifeless puppy. Now he’s barking, gaining strength, showing off his personality and becoming more full of life every day.

Nine days of around-the-clock care adds up quickly though and Rudy’s bill is currently around $13K.
