🤝🗣🏳️‍🌈 Happy Disability Pride Month everyone! We are excited to be bringing back virtual small groups in an effort to make receiving support more accessible to our members. More on that soon.

This weekend we will be joined by speaker, Brandon Mack. He is an activist, educator, and founder of B.Mack Strategies, a consulting firm committed to advancing unapologetic equity through education, advocacy, and organizational training. Grounded in the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, and education, his work centers on expanding access, building power, and creating more just systems for historically excluded communities. Mack is a longtime community leader in Houston. He serves as President of the Houston LGBTQ+ Political Caucus, one of the nation’s oldest civil rights organizations, where he leads efforts focused on voter engagement, political education, and candidate endorsement. He also serves as Chair of the Harris County LGBTQIA+ Commission, working to advance policy and improve quality of life for LGBTQIA+ residents. Previously, he was a lead organizer with Black Lives Matter: Houston, mobilizing communities around racial justice and systemic change. In addition to his advocacy work, Mack brings 17 years of experience in college admissions. He previously served as Associate Director of Admission and Coordinator of Transfer Admission at Rice University and as Interim Director of Operations for the International Association for College Admissions Counseling (International ACAC). Across his career, he has focused on expanding college access through outreach, recruitment, and education initiatives for underrepresented students. Mack holds a B.A. in Sociology and Political Science from Rice University and an M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration & Supervision from the University of Houston. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in Higher Education.

As always, this month’s meeting will convene on July 12th at the Montrose Center (401 Branard Street) in room 112/113 at 2PM. After Brandon finishes his presentation, our in person support circle setup will start at 3:00 PM and wrap up at 4:30 PM. Come join us for a collaborative and supportive discussion!

Mandy Giles, the founder of Parents Of Trans Youth, will be speaking at Mosaic Church (11901 Shadow Creek Parkway) on June 14th at 11 am.

Instead we will have time to brainstorm together in service of compiling a community resource list. We want to help our members and their families access the services they need without fear of harrasment or discrimination and we need your neurons!

Our educational speaker this month is Dr. Tomson Ivins, a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. He is currently the Director of Clinical and Community Engagement for the Council on Recovery and has delivered over 100 presentations on high-risk behaviors and the adolescent brain. Dr. Ivin's passion is helping all those who have aspirations to grow in their field but lack the internal resources to navigate the interpersonal barriers standing in their way.

This meeting will be at the Montrose Center, located at 401 Branard Street and in room 112/113. After the presentation, we will begin support group starting at 3:00pm and will wrap up by 4:30pm. Hope to see you all there for a supportive discussion!

Due to the changing legal landscape in Texas, our educational speaker this month is no longer available. All the more time to focus on supporting our members! We will be having a support group only meeting, beginning at 2:00 PM and going until 4:00 PM. Extended support group meetings help provide extra care and support to our community during incredibly challenging and difficult times, and allow space for lengthier discussions that need additional time to be explored properly.

There is no educational speaker for this month, but we will be having a lovely holiday party put together by our fantastic members. Support group will begin at 2:00 PM instead, and we will transition into the holiday party at 3:15 PM. Please come by and spend a lovely chilly Sunday with us and celebrate the holiday season! We'll have plenty of food for all.
