Nothing humbles you quite like a newborn who slept ALL DAY and is suddenly wide awake at 2 a.m. like, “So…what are we doing?” 😂🤪🫠

Newborns truly have no respect for business hours. 😜

We have to remember that their internal body clock is still developing, so those early weeks can feel like one long stretch of feeding, sleeping, waking, and wondering what day it is.

But one simple thing you can start doing from the beginning is helping your baby experience a difference between day and night.

☀️ During the day: open the blinds, let the house sound like a house, be loud, talk to your baby, and enjoy those little alert periods.

🌙 At night: be boring! Boring is beautiful.
Keep the lights low. Keep voices silent (or very soft). Feed them quietly. Change them when needed. Snuggle them. But those middle of the night interactions do not need to become another daytime wake window with bright lights and entertainment. 😆

You’re giving their developing body clock little clues over and over again:

This is daytime.
This is nighttime.

And it takes time! Your newborn will still wake frequently to eat (which is normal and good), and this isn’t some magic trick that will suddenly make a 2-week-old sleep through the night.

But those consistent cues can help support their developing day-night rhythm as they grow. 🙌

And if you’re currently reading this at 2:37 a.m. while your newborn stares at you with the biggest, brightest eyes… 🥺

Hi. 👋😂 You’re in good company.

Parents: Was your newborn a daytime sleeper and nighttime party animal? 👇

Save this for those newborn nights, and send it to an expecting parent who may appreciate the warning. 😂🧡

This was a good reminder for me that being a good parent isn’t about getting everything right. It’s about showing love, listening, growing, and trying again tomorrow. As kids, we thought the magic just happened. ✨

The costumes appeared. The pumpkins got carved. The house was decorated. The treats were ready. The traditions happened year after year.

We never saw the planning, the organizing, the shopping, the late-night finishing touches, or all the little things someone did behind the scenes.

We just got to be kids and enjoy it. (Which we should do. 🧡)

And then one day, we became moms.

Suddenly, we are the ones remembering the costumes, buying the candy, planning the traditions, decorating the house, and finding little ways to make an ordinary October, November & December feel magical. ✨

And somewhere in the middle of creating that magic for our own children, we realized…
the magic we remember from childhood had someone behind it, too. 🧡

So here’s to the moms making the holiday season magical in a hundred little ways their children may not notice right now.

Someday, they might realize the magic was you all along, too. 🎃✨
