I consider myself very much a populist. But the way to be a populist is not to get into the Bernie Sanders game of giving away free stuff.

The way to be a populist is to fight for the jobs of working men and women. Fight for small businesses. Fight for policies that actually create opportunity.

There are misguided voices on the Right saying we should embrace “socialism lite.” We should not become Democrats with a slightly less generous Santa Claus.

There are two answers to “right-wing socialism”: no, and hell no.

There are a handful of online influencers trying to push socialism to young people. And young people historically have been susceptible to those arguments. Every older person has been young. No young person has ever been older. They don’t have the historical experience to know that socialism doesn’t work.

Everywhere it has been implemented, socialism has been a train wreck.

I know something about this firsthand. As a teenager in Cuba, my father fought alongside Fidel Castro, who came promising free things and promising to overthrow a tyrant. As my father put it, the people fighting in the Cuban Revolution were 14- and 15-year-old boys who didn’t know any better.

They discovered what socialism meant when Castro took power, began executing dissidents, and seized people’s land.

There is an enormous difference between who Justice Clarence Thomas is in reality and the caricature the media has painted.

He is brilliant. He is principled. And he is remarkably down to earth. At the Supreme Court, he knows the janitors, the electricians, and the working men and women there. He knows their kids’ names. And he has a deep Santa Claus laugh you can hear echoing down the halls.

That is the Clarence Thomas I wanted America to know.

When you look at stories like this, and it makes sense that the Democrat Party is getting taken over by socialists.
