Since 1951, Rainbow Lanes has been a family-owned bowling center in Huntington.

It has remained in continuous use for league play and open bowling, serving bowlers of all ages across generations and staying active through weekly league schedules and everyday visits!

Over the decades, it has hosted league competitions, birthday parties, school fundraisers, youth programs, and group outings, alongside regular open bowling for individuals, families, and teams.

This year marks ✨75✨ years of operation, a place that has stayed familiar across generations.

Jamie’s Legacy 🐾

In 2012, a search for a lost cat named Jamie spiraled into a mission that changed everything. What began as an attempt to find one missing friend ended in heartbreak, but it also opened a door. Losing Jamie shifted his family’s perspective, revealing the stray cats living in the shadows of Huntington and beyond. They realized they could not look away, and from that heartbreak, Jamie’s Legacy was born.

The sanctuary houses those who cannot safely return to their original territory, providing a place to stay, steady food, and medical care. Beyond the sanctuary, the team spends their energy in the field. They work to trap, fix, and vaccinate stray cats, helping to stabilize colonies throughout the area. 🐈

Everything here runs on the dedication of volunteers and the support of people who believe in the work. It is an ongoing effort to look out for the lives that others often pass by, fueled by the memory of a cat who was loved enough to spark a change for thousands of others. 💛

This is a little different from a typical Rocks & Roots spotlight.

Three hand-painted rock game sets are now at the game tables in Rotary Centennial Park: a chess set, a checkers set, and a cowboy checkers set. They’re placed for anyone who would like to sit down and play!

A recent Shop Huntington post highlighting the park is what sparked this project, so shout-out to them for that inspiration!

The Historic Grocery Getaway! 🛒✨

If these walls could talk, they’d tell stories of neighbors stopping by for fresh milk & pantry staples. Built in the early 1900s, this beautiful brick building was once a bustling neighborhood mom-and-pop grocery store right here in Huntington.

Today, it’s been lovingly preserved and transformed into a unique, cozy local retreat by high school sweethearts and lifelong locals, Landon & Ashley Crittendon. They've kept all that incredible historic character alive, from the gorgeous original brickwork to the beautiful hardwood floors. Giving visitors a one-of-a-kind place to stay and experience our community.

🩷Dirt, Ducks & Doohickies💚

It’s hard not to do a double-take when you pass a Jeep and see a dashboard lined with a row of rubber ducks. Those little ducks are part of a culture built on small gestures that make a community feel a little more connected, even between total strangers.

Dirt, Ducks & Doohickies is an online shop run by a local who is just starting out, leaning into the creative side of the hobby and finding ways to share that fun. While the shop is a place to find things like the iconic CelebriDucks to gift a fellow driver, there is a real focus on the custom work as well.

Powered by a dream and a 3D printer, this small business creates custom “doohickies” such as badges and mounts you won’t find in big-box stores. Alongside hand-pressed apparel, it’s all about turning a genuine love for the Jeep community into something useful & personal.

🌿 Tully’s Crumb Shop

Some things start small. Just an idea, a kitchen, and a lot of trial and error.

Tully’s Crumb Shop comes from Ashley and Wade Tully, high school sweethearts raising their family and building something together out of Andrews, IN.

What started with Wade’s love for cooking grew into Ashley finding her own rhythm with baking. She even began milling her own flour to make bread with a more natural style than what you find at the store.

Right now they’re baking from home and sharing it with the community however they can, with a long-term goal of turning it into a food truck.

You’ll be able to find them at local farmers markets this spring, but until then, they’re already getting their start one order at a time.
