Tim Brickley / Music

Come hear some new, original music tonight that I guarantee you will serve as a spiritually-healing balm against the madness of our current national craziness.

The Kan-Kan Cinema "Soundcheck: Music On Film" combined movie/live original music series is every Thursday night! Tonight's film is "Amazing Grace" (2018), a documentary presenting Aretha Franklin with choir at the New Bethel Baptist Church in Watts, Los Angeles in January 1972, at 7:45pm. And performing live in the bar starting at 6pm is the amazingly soulful Andrew Brozek. If I wasn't working, man, that's where I'd be tonight!?!

This Thursday's live music in the lounge is: Andrew Brozek! He blends modern influences with his love for bluegrass and old-time music. He loves the elegance and simplicity of acoustic music, and is dedicated to making all of his instruments an extension of himself both through arrangements and improvisation. His lyrics have been described as honest and direct, though nonetheless beautiful.

Music is free so grab a cocktail and a slice of pizza and enjoy some tunes.

Hey folks, no "Troubadour Night" this week because of the holiday - but if you are out and about we're pitching a Labor Day Hootenanny at Different Beat this Monday 9.7 - once again piggybacking with the epic Jazz Kitchen/Yats Labor Day fest on our beloved 54th and College corner. Swing by - we are kicking live music off at noon with a stellar lineup up: Hey Judy Liu, Jacki Guitar, Lee Harrold, Meg Cristeen. David Yosha, Levi Pickett and yours truly playing some original tunes. The Jazz Kitchen party kicks in around the corner at 2:30p, with Pavel and Direct Contact, Wendy Reed, Brenda Williams, Yvonne Allu, Rob Dixon and Triology with DJ Rusty Redenbacher spinning in-between. Should be a lovely day, see you tomorrow - TB
