Gwen is the sister in this stunning pair of German Shepherds. They are approximately 12 months old. During their first six months, they had free access to the house and surrounding acreage through an open sliding glass door and were crated at night. Much of their early learning came from exploring their surroundings together, with limited practice responding independently to human guidance.

After their owner died, a rescue cared for them for six months and introduced basic commands, including β€œsit,” β€œwait,” β€œoff,” and β€œdown.” Manners training has begun for both, and leash skills still need to be developed. Both behaved very well at the veterinary office.

They currently rely heavily on one another in their decision-making. When let outside separately, they may pace, circle, search for the other, and become less responsive to their handler. Together, they tend to run off and become difficult to engage.

Based on these observations, our recommendation is that they be adopted into separate homes, where each can receive individual attention, consistent training, and support in developing confidence and a relationship with their adopter. Their distress when separated should be addressed through gradual, supported practice.

A joint adoption could be considered for an experienced home that understands this dynamic and can commit to separate training, walks, and regular individual time with each dog. The priority is helping both young dogs develop the confidence and skills to thrive as individuals.
