Today is the first day of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. We know that partner violence is both widespread and deadly. Awareness is how we start to reverse the tide.

In October, we recognize Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Month.

This year’s theme is With Survivors, Always. This year we explore what it means to act in the name of survivors.

Across the United States, we’re seeing violence minimized, cuts to the services families rely upon, and increased barriers to safety for survivors and their children. Now more than ever, we must stand with survivors, always.

A heartfelt thank you to Sealaska Heritage Institute and Perseverance Theatre for generously donating 15 tickets to Ḵutulagaaw: The Tlingit-Russian Battles (A Lingít Opera) for our participants.

Many of the individuals and families we serve are on a healing journey after experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault, and trauma. For survivors, opportunities to step away from daily challenges and connect with culture, community, and joy are deeply meaningful.

Hearing the Tlingit language spoken and sung, witnessing stories shared on stage, and seeing Native culture celebrated so vibrantly is far more than entertainment—it is affirmation, belonging, pride, and healing. 💙

Last year, AWARE provided more than 10,000 shelter nights to survivors and families in our community.

Every gift helps keep AWARE’s doors open and our services available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

🍽️ Introducing Sunday Supper Club at AWARE!

Last summer, while our shelter kitchen was being renovated, we asked Juneau to help us keep dinner on the table—and you showed up in the best way. Night after night, meals were delivered for families.

Our shelter cook now provides healthy, consistent dinners six nights a week in the new kitchen, helping us reduce food waste, stretch our food budget and create connection and community around the dinner table.

But on Sundays we need your help!

We’re inviting businesses, churches, organizations, friend groups, families and anyone who wants to help—to Adopt a Sunday and provide dinner for approximately 25 adults and 15 children staying at AWARE.

~Cook a meal and deliver it
~Order takeout and have it delivered
~Sign up once or join the Sunday Supper Club by cooking monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly—it’s completely up to you!

🚨 Our most immediate need is THIS SUNDAY, September 13! If you can help us fill the table this weekend, we would be especially grateful.
