đ° **Bunny of the Week: Meet Bourbon â A Bunny Like No Other** đ
After a week of getting to know Bourbon, one thing is clear⌠this girl is truly one-of-a-kind.
Bourbon is the perfect mix of everything you could hope for in a house rabbit. She's curious and adventurous, greeting you at her pen gate because she knows it's time for exploring. She's playful and loves her enrichment, from her beloved stacking cups to her timothy hay huts, hay cubes, and foraging activities.
She's tidy, with excellent litter box habits, and she isn't interested in "remodeling" her space. She's confident and comfortable around the world around her, whether she's spending time with dogs, cats, or children. Bourbon knows who she isâshe's a gentle bunny with a spunky personality who isn't afraid to give you a little thump when she has an opinion.
She's also a professional lounger, happiest soaking up the sunshine by the slider door, relaxing on the top bunk of her hidey home, or stretching out wherever she decides is the perfect spot. And just when you think you know where she is, she'll remind you that she's full of surprises by quietly hopping onto the couch for an unexpected visit.
Bourbon is the kind of bunny who makes everyday moments special. She'll greet you, make you laugh, keep you entertained, and slowly become part of your daily routine. She doesn't just want a place to liveâshe's looking for a family who will appreciate her big personality, respect her boundaries, and love all the little things that make her Bourbon.
If you've been waiting for a bunny who is confident, playful, affectionate, and full of character, Bourbon may be the companion you've been looking for. đЎ
Could Bourbon be the missing piece to your family?
đž Consider opening your home and your heart to this amazing girl. She can't wait to meet you!

đ¨ BREAKING NEWS: LOCAL RESCUE NOW ACCEPTING âIâM MOVING, SO MY PET IS YOUR PROBLEMâ SURRENDERS! đ¨
Have you had your rabbit for 6 years?
Did you feed him, love him, watch him grow, buy him toys, clean his litter box, and make him part of your family?
Wonderful! â¤ď¸
Now⌠are you moving?
PERFECT!
Simply contact your local rabbit rescue and say:
âHi! Iâve had my rabbit for 6 years, but Iâm moving and canât take him. I need him gone in 2â3 days. Iâll give you whatever food I have left. Thanks!â
⨠ITâS THAT EASY! â¨
No need to consider your rabbit when making your moving plans.
No need to research housing options that allow pets.
No need to plan ahead.
No need to ask yourself, âWhat am I going to do with the animal who has depended on me for SIX YEARS?â
And certainly no need to understand that a rescue is not an animal disposal service.
Just⌠drop the rabbit off at the rescue! đ
Because apparently after six years, your rabbitâs entire life can be reduced to:
đŚ Moving box
𼏠Leftover pellets
đ° âSomeone else will take him.â
⸝
Obviously, thatâs not how this works.
We understand that life happens. People experience divorces, evictions, financial hardship, illness, unsafe situations, and circumstances they genuinely could not have predicted.
Those situations are different.
But âIâm movingâ is generally not a surprise.
When you choose to bring an animal into your family, that animal becomes part of your life decisions.
You donât get to plan the move first and then decide, âOh yeah⌠I have a rabbit.â
And hereâs the part that breaks our hearts:
Your rabbit doesnât know youâre moving.
He doesnât understand why the person heâs trusted for six years suddenly isnât taking him along.
He doesnât understand why his home, his smells, his routine, and his person are disappearing.
He doesnât know that you have decided his life is now someone elseâs problem.
He just knows that his world changed.
And no, rabbits arenât disposable because theyâre small.
They arenât disposable because theyâre inexpensive compared to a dog.
They arenât disposable because theyâre âjust a rabbit.â
And they certainly arenât disposable because the law doesnât require you to keep them.
If you had a child, you wouldnât say:
âIâm moving in three days. I canât take him. Can you take him? Iâll send along his leftover snacks.â
So why is an animal who has depended on you for six years somehow different?
Because you CAN legally walk away from them?
That doesnât mean you SHOULD.
đ° Animals are commitments. Not leftovers. Not furniture. Not temporary decorations for the chapter of your life when they were convenient.
Before you bring an animal into your family, please think about the life youâre promising them.
And if you genuinely find yourself in a crisis and truly cannot keep your rabbit, please reach out as early as possible.
We may not be able to take every rabbitâbut giving a rescue weeks or months to help you find a safe solution is infinitely better than:
âI need him gone by Friday.â
Because your rabbit isnât moving out.
Heâs being moved.
And he deserves to be considered in that decision. â¤ď¸đ°

Shout out to our volunteers (Emily, Zoey, Tami, Suzanne, Jennifer & her daughter, and Heather) for coming out tonight and taking pictures of all the barn buns! Not only was it fun, many hands made light work and the 36 rabbits in the barn will soon have nicer profile pictures to help them get adopted!
Here are some âout takesâ from the evening.

đ° **Bunny of the Week: Life with Bourbon** đ
If I had to describe Bourbon in one word, it would be **personality**.
She's a gentle soul who will happily eat treats right from your hand, making every interaction feel like you're earning her trust a little more each day. While she enjoys affection, Bourbon also likes to make the rules. She welcomes pets on **her** terms, and if something isn't quite to her liking, she'll let you know with an adorable little thump. It's part of what makes her so charmingâshe isn't afraid to express herself!
Bourbon loves her free-roam time, but she's not interested in taking over the entire house. She's perfectly content exploring and lounging in one room, checking in on whatever you're doing before finding her next cozy spot.
And don't let her fool you... she's a sneaky little thing! More than once, I've looked around wondering where Bourbon disappeared to, only to realize she'd quietly climbed onto the couch. The next thing I know, she hops down... and somehow manages to land right on me! It's impossible not to laugh at her little surprise visits.
Living with Bourbon means every day brings something new. One day she's flopped in a sunny spot by the slider, the next she's rearranging her stacking cups, asking for a treat, or making an unexpected visit to the couch. She has a way of filling your home with quiet joy, little laughs, and those small moments that become your favorite memories.
Bourbon isn't just looking for a homeâshe's looking for someone to share all of life's everyday adventures with. If you're searching for a bunny with a gentle heart, a spunky spirit, and a personality that keeps you smiling, Bourbon is ready to make your house feel even more like home. đЎ
Please help us name this new kiddo!!
Update on Newaygo, there were bot larve just under both of her eyes. They have been removed. The holes have been cleaned, she is on antibiotics and main meds and receiving warm compresses to keep them clean and draining.
The bill was $507 and we would absolutely love help recovering that cost.

đ° **Bunny of the Week: Bourbon, the Professional Lounger** âď¸
If there were an Olympic sport for relaxing, Bourbon would be bringing home the gold. đĽ
When Bourbon isn't busy exploring, she's busy finding the *perfect* place to stretch out and soak in the moment. Her favorite spot? Right by the sliding glass door, where she can bask in the warm sunshine and watch the world go by. There's nothing she loves more than a sunny afternoon nap.
She also enjoys claiming the top bunk of her hidey home as her own little lookout. Whether she's perched up high or completely sprawled out across the floor, Bourbon always manages to find the coziest place in the room.
One of the things I love most about her is that she isn't a bunny who spends all day hiding away. Instead, she's content lounging out in the open, making herself right at home. You'll always know where Bourbon has decided to relax next because she's happiest being part of the household, not tucked away out of sight.
Seeing her stretched out with her feet kicked behind her, completely comfortable and at ease, is one of the best reminders of just how safe and happy she feels.
đ If you're looking for a bunny who's equal parts adventurer and couch potato, Bourbon is ready to claim a sunny spot in your homeâand maybe your heart, too.

This is âNewagoâ a rabbit who was allegedly caught outside last night, with severe injuries to both eyes.
I said yes to I taking this bun, knowing full well that humane euthanasia may be the kindest option. I will spare you the graphic images, as these give you an idea of the magnitude.
Newaygo got a ride from our amazing medical foster Angela, and they are currently at VegER in Kentwood. Sedation and wound cleaning along with pain management and antibiotics are under way.
Obviously this was unexpected, and the $506 I just paid was really not on our bingo card for today. If you feel compelled, we welcome donations to recoup the cost. Stay tuned for updates, and hopefully we have a positive outcome.
