Happy Friday! We sent shockwaves through the internet this week debuting our nifty, 3D printed AC fin straightener. Unfortunately, vastly underestimating the internet’s demand for air conditioning content, we neglected to post proper before and after pictures. Consider this our formal apology, and behold! Satisfying solutions to common problems! Cultivate KC
Veggies weren’t the only casualties at Juniper Gardens during the August hailstorm, infrastructure took a beating too. The fins on our brand new cooling units were pummeled flat, which affected their efficiency and made the machines work harder to keep vegetables fresh. When commercial combs fell short, Cultivate KC staff with access to a 3D printer found a solution that works like a charm. FYI for anyone out there with the same issue.

Our hearts go out to our neighbors in Northeast KCK who experienced what will surely become a landmark weather event last week. The kind that will live on in many of our memories. Juniper Gardens Training Farm experienced significant damage last Wednesday. 3” August hail left corn stalks torn to ribbons, and leafy greens pulverized. Looking at around 90% crop loss across all plots, Cultivate KC staff and farmers have spent the last week assessing each plot, and the consensus among growers is: lots of season left, let it rip. One thing’s for sure, it’s going to be a fall full of greens in KCK. After taking one big breath, we’re back at it. Stay tuned.

Would your office like free tickets to Cultivate KC’s upcoming Urban Grown Tour, a self-guided tour of 15 urban farms throughout the KC Metro area? We would love the opportunity to join your team, either in person or virtually, for 15 minutes to talk about volunteer opportunities available at Cultivate KC. We offer a wide variety of opportunities through Large Group Volunteer Workdays, our Mobile Volunteer Program, and the New Roots program at our Juniper Gardens Training Farm. Our goal is to share meaningful ways for groups and individuals to support not only local farmers, but also community food access and sustainable growing practices.
We are experimenting with different ways of reaching potential volunteers, hence our request to you and the offer of free tickets if you will invite us to your next team meeting!
