Ángel Rafael

We’re almost there.

After years of working on Pulpo: El Documental, I’m finally getting ready to share this film with an audience for the first time.

I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who trusted me enough to let me into their lives, their work, their poetry, and their community. Getting to tell even a small part of this story has been a privilege.

More than anything, I hope people who see the film fall in love with the Puerto Rican literary scene the way I did while making it. There are so many incredible writers, poets, publishers, translators, and artists doing this work, often independently and simply because they believe these stories deserve to exist and travel.

Thank you to everyone who helped us get here. I can’t wait to finally sit in a theater in Puerto Rico and experience this film with all of you.

This summer, I was fortunate to be accepted into the final Kopkind Documentary Film Retreat, and I can honestly say the experience helped push Pulpo: El Documental across the finish line.

I’m incredibly grateful to Susi Walsh from the Center for Independent Documentary, John Scagliotti and the Kopkind community, and especially all of the documentary filmmakers who watched the film, challenged me, encouraged me, and helped me push it further.

Now, Pulpo: El Documental is heading to its first festival screening in Puerto Rico with the 10ma Muestra de Cine Documental Latinoamérica en Nosotrxs. Thank you for helping this film become what it needed to be.
