You can't buy love, but you can rescue it.

In service of domestic animals in South Carolina, Frisky Business Rescue is a no-kill rescue that provides vital resources such as veterinary care, birthing assistance, medication, and rehoming or safe release (TNR) to the most vulnerable animals in the region. We specialize in animals with special circumstances that come from various backgrounds, including animal hoarding and abusive situations but primarily focus on vulnerable kittens, puppies, and pregnant/nursing dogs and cats. Before rehoming, we carefully screen new potential families to ensure the needs of our animals are met and that new homes will become furever homes.

THIS IS WHY WE SAY NOT TO DROP ANIMALS OFF 🚨

About a week and a half ago, someone arranged to meet us at our mailing address to surrender several cats.

They no-showed.

The following day, we received an email saying the cats had been dropped off at the property after hours. It was the weekend, no one was there, the cats were not contained, and we didn’t even see the email until the next day.

A week later, the outcome has been heartbreaking. πŸ’”

One was found unalived in a car engine fan.

Two were found unalived along the road.

And the fourth has still not been seen. We know it isn’t eating from our feeder, and we are the only ones who regularly feed animals around the property.

This is EXACTLY why our page says:

🚫 DO NOT ABANDON ANIMALS AT THIS ADDRESS.

Our mailing address is NOT a shelter or staffed rescue facility. There is no one there waiting to receive animals.

If you need to surrender an animal, PLEASE contact us and arrange a drop-off with someone from FBR physically present. Do not assume that leaving an animal at the property means it has been safely surrendered to us.

We understand that people sometimes don’t know what to do. We are always willing to help figure out a safe solution; no judgment.

But please, PLEASE contact us first. Leaving animals loose at an unstaffed property can quite literally cost them their lives. πŸ’”πŸΎ

🐾🀎 Meet Tessa – The Cinnamon Tabby with a BIG Personality! 🀎🐾

πŸ“ Location: Lexington, SC
🐱 Name: Tessa
πŸŽ‚ Age: ~3 months (DOB ~6/25/26)
🐾 Breed: DSH – Cinnamon Tabby (her coloring is MUCH prettier and more unique in person; pictures really don't do her justice!)
♀️ Female

πŸ“… PRE-ADOPTION: Earliest pickup is 10/16.
Adopters may also take her home before then, but MUST be able to bring her to her scheduled spay appointment in Columbia, SC on 10/15.

🩺 Spayed/Neutered/Shots: 2 rounds FVRCP, microchipped, dewormed & UTD on heartworm/flea prevention. She will be spayed and receive her 3rd FVRCP on 10/15. Adopter must complete her final vetting on the appropriate timeline, including final FVRCP & Rabies.

πŸΆπŸ±πŸ‘§ Good with dogs, cats & kids: Good with everything she’s met!

⚠️ Aggression or medical issues?: None known.

Tessa does currently have a major umbilical hernia. This does NOT cause her pain or affect her day-to-day life. it is primarily cosmetic. It will be repaired during her spay surgery on 10/15, so she'll simply have a little more healing to do afterward.

🏑 Reason for rehoming: Owner surrender.

πŸ₯° Personality:

Tessa is VERY friendly, VERY nosy, and VERY vocal! πŸ˜‚

She has no problems being held and absolutely loves to play, climb, explore, and investigate everything around her. She is one of those kittens who wants to know what everyone is doing and will happily provide commentary while she's at it. πŸ˜‚

She's also great with other animals and would make a fun, affectionate addition to the right home! 🀎

πŸ“© Message/email if interested! Please include Tessa’s name in your message, as I have a lot of rescue animals currently looking for homes.

🏑 Adoption application & contract required to ensure a good home and completion of remaining vetting.

🐾 Another new face at Frisky Business Rescue… meet Hank! 🐾

Hank is an English Cocker Spaniel who came to us in pretty rough shape, not because there’s anything obviously wrong with him personality-wise, but because he has been VERY overdue for some basic care. πŸ’”

He is heavily matted and hasn’t been kept up with routine veterinary care, so there’s some catching up to do. First priority: getting all of that uncomfortable matting off, then getting him fully vetted and figuring out exactly where he stands health-wise.

Thankfully, underneath all that mess is a very sweet boy. ❀️

This is one of those cases where a haircut, a proper vet visit, good nutrition, and a little TLC can make a HUGE difference.

Welcome to Frisky Business, Hank. Your glow-up starts now! πŸΎβœ‚οΈβ€οΈ

πŸ’²πŸΎβ“WHY DO WE CHARGE ADOPTION FEESπŸ’²πŸΎβ“

It's Saturday - typically one of our busiest days for adoptions here at Carolina Poodle Rescue. Families coming to visit, dogs meeting new people, matches being made, countless memories ahead.

Twice this week, CPR staff were asked about money. One person on a Facebook post questioned why we request a $250 donation when an owner surrenders a dog. An adopter asked if we would reduce the adoption fee on a dog she wanted to meet.

Fair questions. Perhaps we haven't done a good enough job explaining what an adoption fee actually is.

It is not the price of a dog.

Here are the numbers.

From January through August, 325 CPR dogs were adopted. Those adoptions generated $135,639.57, or an average adoption fee of about $417 per dog.

During those same eight months, Carolina Poodle Rescue spent $780,692.57 caring for our animals and operating the rescue. Veterinary and medical expenses alone were $233,691.85. Every penny of our adoption fees combined wouldn't have paid the veterinary bill.

We average approximately 200 dogs in residence at any given time. Based on those actual expenses, it costs us approximately $16 per dog, per day to care for them and keep this rescue operating.

For the dogs adopted during this period whose records give us an accurate length of stay, the average stay was 117 days. That's approximately $1,872 in care for an average stay.

The average adoption fee was $417. That fee covers about 22% of the cost.

Where does the other 78% come from?

It comes from you.

Our Patrons. Our donors. Our fundraisers. The person who sends $10. The person who sends $10,000. The people who bring supplies. The people who remember CPR in their wills.

This is what no kill looks like.

No kill means giving a dog time. Time to heal. Time to learn. Time to trust. Time for the right person to find them.

Sometimes that takes days. Sometimes months.

Sometimes years.

That is what buying time looks like.

Today, 93 SOS dogs - our seniors and special-needs dogs - live here. Some have been here for years, and for many there will never be an adoption fee at the end of their story.

The dogs who go home help us care for the dogs who don't. The dog who stays three weeks helps the dog who stays three years. The dog who stays a lifetime.

That's why a $699 puppy isn't a $699 dog. That's why a dog with a waived adoption fee isn't a free dog.

There are no dogs for sale here. There are dogs who need time, and there is a community of people who makes that time possible.

That is what Yes We Can looks like.

You deserve to know where your money goes and what it costs to do what we do. CPR is an open book. If you have questions, ask us. We may give you more of an answer than you bargained for, but we will answer you.

You make it possible for us to say Yes We Can. You deserve to know what your yes makes possible. πŸ’•πŸ©

πŸΎπŸ’™ Meet Linden – The Tall, Lanky, Playful Poodle Mix! πŸ’™πŸΎ

πŸ“ Location: Lexington, SC
🐢 Name: Linden
πŸŽ‚ Age: ~1 year (DOB ~8/1/25)
πŸ• Breed: Poodle Mix – ~25 lbs (extremely lean, but very tall & lanky)
♂️ Male

🩺 Neutered; UTD on Rabies, Bordetella & DHPP; dewormed, microchipped & UTD on flea/heartworm prevention.

πŸΆπŸ±πŸ‘§ Good with dogs, cats & kids: Good with everything he’s met! He may be too much for senior animals because he thinks everyone is his new best friend and wants to play. πŸ˜‚

⚠️ Medical/behavior: None known.

🏑 Reason for rehoming: Pulled from Animal Control after being found as a stray with no owner coming forward.

πŸ₯° Personality:

Linden had a ROUGH start. He arrived at Animal Control extremely matted and had to be shaved, and we still need to clean up the feet situation they left us with. πŸ˜‚ He then arrived with a severe URI, including one eye swollen and matted shut. Thankfully, he's through all of that now, and underneath it all was one REALLY sweet dog. ❀️

Linden is extremely friendly, loves hugs and cuddles, and is loyal off leash. He LOVES to play and is higher-energy than most doodles I've had. He is NOT a couch potato and needs an outlet for his energy.

He's also quite vocal when playing, although thankfully he isn't demanding. πŸ˜‚

We will prioritize homes with other playful dogs, not because he depends on another dog, but because playing with dogs is his FAVORITE thing. I'm not sure I've even seen him touch a toy because he'd much rather wrestle with a canine friend! πŸ˜‚

πŸ› GROOMING: Poodle mixes require regular maintenance! Linden will need professional grooming every 4–6 weeks AND thorough weekly brushing at home to prevent painful matting. He does appear to have a non-shedding coat, but that means grooming is NOT optional.

If you're looking for a goofy, affectionate, energetic dog with a love for play, Linden might be your guy! πŸ’™

πŸ“© Message/email if interested! Please include Linden’s name in your message.

🏑 Adoption application & contract required.

🐾🀎 Meet Wh***ey – The Barn Cat Who Was Actually a House Cat! πŸ˜‚πŸ€Ž

πŸ“ Location: Lexington, SC
🐱 Name: Wh***ey
πŸŽ‚ Age: ~6 months
🐾 Breed: DMH – Brown Tabby with White
♂️ Male

🩺 Spayed/Neutered/Shots: Neutered; UTD on Rabies & FVRCP; dewormed, microchipped & UTD on flea/heartworm prevention.

πŸΆπŸ±πŸ‘§ Good with dogs, cats & kids: Good with everything he’s met, although he can be a little growly at first when meeting new animals.

⚠️ Aggression or medical issues?: None known.

🏑 Reason for rehoming: Wh***ey was adopted as a barn cat, but there was just one problem… **he apparently never got the memo that he was supposed to be a barn cat.** πŸ˜‚

He was WAY too friendly and quickly decided that he was actually a house cat. Unfortunately, his family wasn't able to have an indoor cat, so he came back to us to find the home he clearly had in mind all along!

πŸ₯° Personality:

Wh***ey is VERY friendly, gentle, and absolutely loves pets and attention. He has no problem being held and is the type of cat who would happily spend his day hanging out with his people.

He would be especially great for a family with kids looking for a tolerant, affectionate cat who enjoys being loved on. ❀️

Basically, Wh***ey has already made his career choice: **HOUSE CAT.** πŸ˜‚πŸ πŸ±

πŸ“© Message/email if interested! Please include Wh***ey’s name in your message, as I have a lot of rescue animals currently looking for homes.

🏑 Adoption application & contract required to ensure a good home.

Like… I watched it happen and I’m still trying to figure out the physics. 😭 Cats are literally just liquid. πŸ« πŸˆβ€β¬›
