We ❤️ Al Snow
Allen Ray Sarven's road into wrestling was built on genuine, relentless persistence. Born July 18, 1963, in Lima, Ohio, he was captivated by professional wrestling from a young age, and as a teenager, he maintained a real monthly ritual calling up every major wrestling promotion he could find, asking for a chance to train. Each time, he got turned down. Each month, he simply called again. His break finally came right after high school, when a promoter who'd previously rejected him changed his mind, connecting him with Jim Lancaster, promoter of Ohio's Midwest Championship Wrestling, who agreed to personally train him. He debuted on May 22, 1982, and spent the following decade grinding through Midwest independent promotions, working against legends like Harley Race, Bruiser Brody, and Curt Hennig, cycling through masked "Shinobi" ninja and other early gimmicks while earning a reputation among insiders as "the best-kept secret in wrestling," despite never quite breaking through nationally. He also ran his own wrestling school, "Body Slammers," in Lima, training future star D'Lo Brown as an assistant. His career finally reached mainstream audiences through ECW in the mid-90s, and later WWF, where he became genuinely famous for one of the strangest gimmicks in wrestling history carrying a foam mannequin head named "Head" that he'd talk to before matches, a character so bizarrely memorable it became a defining piece of the Attitude Era's chaos. Beyond performing, Snow became one of wrestling's most respected trainers, running WWE's "Tough Enough" reality show for four seasons and eventually purchasing developmental promotion Ohio Valley Wrestling outright in 2018, continuing to shape new generations of talent today. 🎤
