Love Overwhelming is a faith-based nonprofit organization of Cowlitz County. We exist to extend hope through several recovery oriented services & programs.
This was Matt, beside lake Sacajawea in Longview…
December 2024.
By then, he had something many people experiencing homelessness are desperately trying to reach:
A place of his own. A home.
One year housed became two however… something changed after Matt got inside.
He did not forget the people who were still outside.
He kept showing up at PB&J Park every week. (Weekly meal share co-started by our friend, Ted)
Sometimes for peanut butter and jelly. Sometimes for conversation.
Sometimes simply because community does not stop mattering when someone gets a key.
And even after he was housed, Matt was still asking for something for the people left behind:
Somewhere safe to go.
Matt passed away September 9, 2026.
And this is the part of his story I do not want us to miss.
His ending does not erase his life. It does not erase the years he remained housed.
It does not erase the relationships he built. It does not erase the fact that after getting what he once needed, he was still thinking about people who had not gotten there yet.
Maybe that is the question Matt leaves with Longview:
What kind of community do we want to be for the person who still has nowhere safe to go?
Because sometimes the clearest voice reminding us not to forget comes from someone who knows exactly what it feels like to be forgotten.
Matt mattered.
So do the people still outside.

Today our Love Overwhelming team is out at the Overdose Awareness event at the Longview Civic Circle until 6 PM.
We are here to help bring resources, services, and support to our community…and to stand with individuals and families impacted by substance use, overdose, trauma, and recovery.
We are incredibly thankful for our team and their leadership, commitment, empathy, and accountability…not only for the people we serve, but for our community and themselves as well.
At Love Overwhelming, we believe real change happens when people are met with both compassion and accountability. That is how hope grows. That is how connection begins. That is how lives can change.

Overdose touches more families, friends, and neighbors than most of us realize.
But awareness is only the beginning.
Today, the Love Overwhelming team is at the Overdose Awareness event at the Longview Civic Circle…connecting with our community, sharing resources, remembering lives lost, and reminding people that recovery, connection, and a different future are possible.
If you have been impacted by overdose, substance use, homelessness, or simply want to be part of building a stronger community, come see us.
The event continues until 6:00 PM today at the Longview Civic Circle in Longview, Washington. August 31, 2026.
You do not have to run a nonprofit to make a difference.
You can show up.

If you’re walking Lake Sacajawea today, your coffee stop can do more than give you caffeine. It can help a local family get clean laundry.
Each month, we receive more than 100 requests for laundry and shower services, and the need continues to exceed the resources available.
So we’re doing what we’ve always believed in: creating opportunity, not just meeting a need.
Some of the individuals we serve are participating in workforce development programs. As part of that journey, we help create opportunities for them to display and sell their own artwork, and they keep 100% of what they earn.
At the same time, our Laundry Love Longview team is selling ice-cold brew coffee, with proceeds helping fund laundry services for local families, including families with children.
So if you’re:
• Walking around Lake Sacajawea
• Driving through the neighborhood
• Looking for a cold coffee
• Interested in some locally created artwork
• Or simply looking for a practical way to help your neighbors
Stop by and see us.
We’re right next to Longview Community Church and across the street from Lake Sacajawea.

A cup of coffee might seem small. But together, small purchases become clean clothes, dignity, opportunity, and one less burden for a family in our community.

Our Hearts Are Heavy for the community in the City of Longview, Washington.
We are grieving with our community today and standing alongside the employees, families, and everyone impacted by the tragedy at Nippon Dynawave.
When something like this happens so close to home, it is not just news. It is our neighbors. It is our friends. It is people who went to work, and people waiting for answers.
To the first responders and all those continuing to serve in this incredibly difficult situation: we are profoundly thankful for your dedication.
Today, our heroes are the workers and their families. They deserve our respect, our compassion, and our quiet support. May every family affected feel the unwavering care of this community around them.

If your family receives food assistance in Longview, Kelso, Woodland, or anywhere in Cowlitz County, something important is happening this May.
Federal rules are changing how food benefits work in Washington starting May 2026. Some families will be moved to a new program automatically. Some may see their monthly amount go down. And some adults will go through a new work requirement screening at their next eligibility review.
The most important thing to know right now: missing your eligibility review is the fastest way to lose coverage. Make sure DSHS has your current address so you do not miss their notices.
We broke it all down in plain language on our blog so you know exactly what to expect and what to do now that May is here.
If you know someone in Cowlitz County who receives SNAP or food benefits, please share this post with them. A lot of people will not hear about these changes until it is too late.
Sharing this takes two seconds and could protect a family's access to food.
