While caring for a heart failure patient on a Lasix drip, Makenzie noticed an additional order for a Lasix IV push. Seeing that the patient was already responding well to the drip, she paused and asked clarifying questions to double-check the order before administering it. Her sharp clinical intuition and attention to detail ensured the order was clarified and prevented the patient from receiving an unnecessary extra dose.

Makenzie’s willingness to speak up and verify care is a perfect example of how our nurses protect patient safety every single day.

Demonstrating what it means to care beyond the clock, Stephanie noticed a patient struggling without denture paste, which was delaying his recovery. On her day off, she personally DoorDashed denture paste to the hospital so he had what he needed.

Easily spotted in their colorful Caribbean blue scrubs, our EVS professionals are the true unsung heroes behind the scenes. From rigorously disinfecting patient rooms and surgical suites to keeping our entire campus sparkling, safe and welcoming, their daily work is essential to the healing process.

Quite simply, our hospital couldn’t run without their dedication, hard work and attention to detail.

We are thrilled to recognize Adriane Jones, a charge nurse in our Intensive Care Unit, for winning the HRO (High-Reliability Organization) Hero Award! 🏆

While caring for a patient recently, Adriane noticed a discrepancy between the X-ray report findings and the patient's actual condition.

Thanks to her sharp clinical eye and questioning attitude, the patient's treatment plan was adjusted, leading to significant improvement within just 24 hours!

Help us celebrate Susan Lowrey, a charge nurse in our Emergency Department, who just marked 45 years with Huntsville Hospital Health System! 🙌

Susan knew from an early age that she wanted to be a nurse. “Growing up, we watched every medical show there was,” she recalls. Whenever her mother or sister got hurt, it was Susan who stepped in to try to make things better.

She started her nursing career in 1977 at Helen Keller Hospital before joining Huntsville Hospital as a night shift ER nurse in 1981, eventually becoming one of the select few invited to join the ER's elite, red-scrub-wearing Trauma Team.

In 2012, we were lucky enough to bring Susan to the Madison Hospital ER, where she's been caring for patients ever since our doors opened.

Next May, she will celebrate 50 years in nursing — a milestone that might finally have her thinking about hanging up her stethoscope. 🩺

Until then, we're simply grateful to have her.
