Corrosion doesn’t always stop where you can see it.
This MacBook SSD had corrosion underneath the chips where it couldn’t be cleaned by hand. Into the ultrasonic cleaner it goes.
Clean. Dry. Recover.
This USB drive came in with the connector ripped off the board, barely hanging on. We were able to get a temporary connector on the drive and recover 100% of the data.
Here’s a quick look at the recovery.
Sheetrock went up before the holes for the wired door contacts were drilled.
The wiring was already in place, but getting it through the door frames meant carefully opening access, drilling the contact locations, and fishing each wire through a very tight space around framing and spray foam.
A little more work than originally planned.

Now we test every single run.
That means terminating each one just to test it before the walls are closed, then terminating everything again when we finish the installation.

Corrosion can continue damaging electronics long after a spill has dried. It can weaken connections, damage board traces, and cause power, charging, or intermittent system failures.
Water damage is common, but high humidity, condensation, and environmental contaminants can also cause corrosion over time, weakening connections.
For this repair, power was disconnected, the affected area was inspected under magnification, corrosion was cleaned, damaged connections were checked and
repaired, and the system was reassembled and tested.
If electronics get wet, shut them down immediately, repeated power attempts can make the damage worse.

Data recovery from a USB drive is often less about the connector and more about the tiny board inside.
When a flash drive stops showing up, the damage can come from broken solder joints, failed components, controller issues, or corrupted NAND memory. In some cases, recovery means bypassing the damaged USB connection and working directly with the storage chip.
This is delicate work. Plugging the drive in repeatedly, trying random repair tools, or
formatting it can make recovery harder. If the data matters, stop using the drive and have it inspected before more damage is done.
