Sharing study findings with research participants in understandable plain language is a recognized best practice that enhances transparency, demonstrates respect for participants’ contributions, fosters trust in clinical research, and aims to help address enrollment and retention challenges.
Using community input, NIH developed a Draft Policy on Sharing Summary Level Study Results with Clinical Research Participants that is now available for your review!

As cancer rates rise in younger adults, screening ages are lowering, to catch risks earlier. But another change is happening in cancer prevention, too. As cancer screening evolves, the focus is shifting from broad population guidelines to more individualized, precise care.
On an recent episode of the miniVHAN podcast, “How Cancer Screening Is Evolving,” Dr. Ben Park, Director of the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, explains how more providers are considering a patient’s full health picture instead of applying the same screening schedule to everyone.
“We’re trying to understand the totality of an individual’s risk,” Park said. “Putting that all together and saying, ‘You need to be screened every one year, or every three years.’”
This reflects a growing emphasis on precision, adjusting screening strategies with each person’s unique health profile.
