As the new school year begins, parents are busy checking off school supply lists, buying backpacks, and getting ready for another exciting year of learning. But there's one important back-to-school item that's often overlooked—a child's vision. 👁️📚
August is Vision and Learning Awareness Month 👁️📚
Did you know that some children who struggle with reading, writing, attention, or learning may be experiencing an undetected vision problem?
A child's vision is about much more than seeing the eye chart. It also includes skills like eye teaming, tracking, focusing, and visual processing—all of which play an important role in learning.
Some signs to watch for include:
• Frequent headaches or eye rubbing
• Losing their place while reading
• Holding books very close
• Skipping words or lines
• Avoiding reading or close-up work
• Poor attention during visual tasks
• Tilting or turning their head to look at things
A comprehensive eye exam is one of the most important steps you can take to support your child's learning and development. Early identification can make a significant difference.
If you notice any of these signs, don't wait—talk with your child's pediatrician or schedule an eye exam with a pediatric eye care professional.
Vision is more than 20/20!
Healthy vision helps children learn, play, and thrive. 💙
