About LISC Memphis

LISC Memphis is the local office of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), one of the nation’s largest community development organizations. We work alongside local leaders, nonprofits, businesses, and public agencies to drive comprehensive community development—improving housing, fostering economic growth, enhancing safety, and building stronger neighborhoods. Under the leadership of Nigel Roberts, Executive Director, LISC Memphis focuses on advancing strategic investments and partnerships that address the city’s most pressing challenges. Our dedicated team includes Wahpillar White, Program Officer for Housing and Lending, who leads efforts to expand affordable housing opportunities, increase access to capital, and strengthen community-based real estate development; and Kenya Johnson, Program Officer for Safety and Justice, who spearheads initiatives that foster safer, more connected, and more resilient communities. Together, LISC Memphis is committed to helping neighborhoods thrive—supporting projects and programs that ensure residents have access to quality housing, economic mobility, and a safe place to call home.

LISC Memphis extends our sincere appreciation to all partners, residents, community leaders, and local organizations who joined us for today’s announcement of the Critical Home Repair for Seniors Program in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis. Your presence and support reflect the shared commitment that makes this work possible.

Today LISC Memphis announced the launch of the Critical Home Repair for Seniors Program, a new initiative in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis designed to help older residents continue living safely and independently in their homes. The program offers grants to address urgent health, accessibility, and safety needs in aging homes across the city.

Program Eligibility
To qualify for the Critical Home Repair for Seniors Program, applicants must:

• Be at least 62 years old

• Have a household income at or below 50% of Area Median Income (AMI)

• Own and occupy the home for which the repairs are requested

• Live within the City of Memphis

• Be current on city and county property taxes, or enrolled in an approved payment plan

• Provide proof of current property insurance at the time of application

Applicants may qualify for the program if they meet all program eligibility criteria. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis accepts repair applications via a periodic call-in process, and a new application date will be shared in early 2026. Clients will be selected on a first-come, first-qualified basis until all repair dollars are allocated. For more information, please visit www.lisc.org/memphis/our-work/affordable-housing and www.memphishabitat.com/aging-in-place-program.

The newly launched program builds on the strong collaboration forged between LISC Memphis and the City of Memphis around home repairs. Together with United Housing, LISC and the City launched 901HELP in 2023 to increase access to affordable home repair financing. This new grant program takes a step further by ensuring low-income seniors—who often face the greatest repair needs and cannot afford a repair loan—can remain safe and stable in their homes.

Let’s continue working together to build a stronger Memphis.

🏠Congratulations to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis on unveiling plans for a beautiful 52-home community on Chelsea Avenue! We were thrilled to be part of such a historic and momentous occasion celebrating the expansion of affordable homeownership in Memphis.

✨ We’re also excited to share that LISC Memphis has been awarded $3 million in HUD Community Project Funding from Congressman Steve Cohen’s office.
This funding will provide home repair grants for seniors in Memphis earning at or below 50% of the area median income—helping ensure they can live safely and comfortably in their homes.

To bring this vision to life, LISC will partner with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis, who will lead program implementation, with support from the City of Memphis Division of Housing and Community Development for environmental review. 📸✨ LISC Memphis was proud to be among the sponsors of this year’s Taste of Memphis event! This celebration brought together incredible food, culture, and community—all while highlighting the people and organizations shaping our city’s future.

We were especially honored to capture a moment with Mayor Paul Young, who once served as an intern at LISC Memphis. To see him now leading our city is a full-circle moment that reflects the power of investing in people and places.

We’re grateful to be part of this event and look forward to continuing our mission of building stronger, more resilient communities in Memphis. 💙
