Two layers of Opti‑Shield Liquid PPF on this Z06—and the finish says it all. 🔥🏁

Weekend Warrior Detailing delivered serious gloss and a real protection upgrade without film seams or edges. Opti‑Shield is for drivers who want more protection than a ceramic coating can offer, while keeping the paint looking completely natural. 💪

A hand-applied, clear protective layer with the gloss this Corvette deserves. Incredible work from an Authorized Opti‑Coat Installer. 👏

Who Invented Automotive Ceramic Coatings? The Documented History 09/21/2026

Who invented automotive ceramic coatings?

The answer is not as simple as the industry’s marketing claims make it sound.

We went back to the documented record—from early industrial technology and Japanese glass coatings to the rise of professional ceramic-coating programs—to separate what can be proven from what has simply been repeated.

Along the way, the record clarifies Opti-Coat’s place in that history: beginning in 2004, Dr. David Ghodoussi developed a distinct SiC-based branch of automotive ceramic-coating technology and introduced it through a professional-only model that helped establish professional coating installation as a distinct specialty.

22 years old. Original paint. And this is how it looked after driving from Texas to Memphis. 👀

Scott Hair’s Infiniti G35 has been protected exclusively with Opti-Coat since 2016 — and we didn’t wash it, polish it, or prep it for the photo.

He pulled in. We looked at the paint. We grabbed the camera.

That’s the post.

22-year-old factory paint. 10 years of Opti-Coat protection. Real miles. Real weather. Real results.

Built on science. Proven in the field.

🚫 Ceramic coating does not automatically mean SiO₂.

Opti-Coat was the first professional automotive ceramic coating introduced in North America—and it was built on Silicon Carbide, or SiC, technology. 🧪

Why does that matter? Chemistry determines how a coating performs after years of UV exposure, washing, chemicals, road film, and real-world driving. While many SiO₂ coating systems rely on annual maintenance, toppers, or boosters, Opti-Coat Pro SiC coatings are designed to permanently bond with the clear coat for long-term durability—without required toppers or special annual maintenance for warranty terms up to 10 years. ✅

Water beading is easy to show. Long-term performance is harder to develop.

Protection should become part of the finish—not simply sit on top of it.

Opti‑Coat Pro uses SiC ceramic technology designed to crosslink with the clear coat, creating a durable protective layer that becomes integrated with the paint surface. Unlike conventional SiO₂ coatings that primarily form a surface film, Opti‑Coat Pro delivers long-term chemical resistance, gloss retention, and easier maintenance.

Because Opti‑Coat is a research, development, and manufacturing company, we develop the chemistry in-house—not from an off-the-shelf formula. That gives us the ability to create better protection and continue advancing the technology behind it.
