SWEETIE UPDATE

Sweetie was just spotted by a concerned citizen and appears to us to have swelling to her left side where her ribs were pronounced yesterday.

Michelle Johnson, who took the pictures, has said it might be the angle, but her ribs are still pronounced and she let out an unimaginable sound and is walking sideways. We are waiting for the video and will share it and an update to Sweetie’s current condition as soon as we’ve reviewed it.

This dog is in imminent danger! PLEASE SHARE!

Thank you for sharing this!

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL CAT DAY ✨🐱

Today we celebrate the tiny roommates who:
✨ knock things off shelves for fun
✨ scream at 3AM for absolutely no reason
✨ demand food immediately after eating
✨ somehow take up 90% of the bed
✨ and still have us wrapped around their little toe beans 🐾

To the cuddly ones, the chaotic ones, the shy ones, the spicy ones, the community cats, and every cat still waiting for their forever home — today is YOUR day. 😽❤️

Happy International Cat Day from all of us at Merced SPCA! 🐾

Right now, we are in need of more foster homes for rescue animals 💛

Fostering is one of the most important ways you can help Merced SPCA continue rescuing vulnerable kittens and cats. Every foster home opens space for another animal in need to receive care, safety, and a second chance.

Some foster animals need bottle feeding 🍼
Some need a quiet place to recover 🐾
Some simply need love, patience, and time before they are ready for adoption.

You do not need years of experience to foster—just compassion and a willingness to help.

And yes… you will probably end up with a camera roll full of cat photos 😅

If you have ever wanted to make a direct difference for animals in our community, this is one of the most powerful ways to help 💛

🚨 SWEETIE UPDATE

We know everyone is angry. We are angry too. And we want people to understand that Merced SPCA has been fighting for Sweetie for far longer than what you are seeing online right now.

We have been communicating with Merced PD and pushing for help for her, but unfortunately, we have not received the support or action we have been asking and PLEADING for. As a 100% volunteer-run rescue, there is only so much we can legally do ourselves.

We cannot legally remove Sweetie from her owner. We cannot trespass or take an owned animal without lawful authority. On top of that, this individual has threatened our volunteers, and we will not put our volunteers in danger.

That does not mean we stopped fighting.

We have offered to take Sweetie into rescue and have continued advocating for her. We are now also in contact with our state senator’s office to see what additional avenues are available to us while we’re lacking higher support.

We also want to clarify: Merced SPCA did not take Sweetie to the veterinarian. The information about her veterinary evaluation came from Merced PD. We have not personally examined her, and what we are seeing and hearing from the community does not appear consistent with the description that was provided on the post.

We understand why people are frustrated. Please understand that we are frustrated too. We wish we had the authority to simply go get Sweetie. We don’t.

But we are still here. We are still fighting for her, and we are not giving up. ❤️🐾

At this time, we are asking our community to do the following:

If you see this owner abusing Sweetie, please take PHOTOS OR VIDEO if you can do so safely, email them to [email protected], and immediately call 911.

Please also be extremely careful when interacting with her owner. He can be aggressive, based on our own personal experiences.

Remember, ANIMAL ABUSE IS A FELONY.

If you see something, say something. ❤️🐾
