We spent two days in Boston with SeaAhead Coastal Resilience Pilot Showcase, pitching ShoreLock alongside some of the most focused teams working on coastal infrastructure problems right now.
The conversations are evolving. It's no longer “here’s the problem” but “here’s what it costs when we get it wrong.”

🌊 Small Island Developing Nations are on the frontlines of climate change — but too often left behind when it comes to coastal protection.
At ShoreLock, we believe every coastline deserves defense — not just for the environment, but for the economic stability of the communities who depend on it. Tourism, fisheries, and local infrastructure all rely on healthy, resilient shorelines.
🌍 Coastal protection is not a luxury. It’s an economic lifeline.

Today marks the launch of the Ocean Rise and Coastal Resilience Coalition in Nice, France — a global movement to protect coastlines and communities. ShoreLock is proud to stand alongside innovators shaping the future of coastal defense with sustainable, nature-based solutions. As sea levels rise, it’s more important than ever to anchor in solutions that work with nature, not against it.

Severe weather events affect everyone regardless of age, but our ability to adapt to change quickly becomes more challenging as financial resources become more fixed later in life. It's the responsibility of coastal towns to consider all of the residents and put plans in place to help relocate older residents during extreme events and use all available resources to prepare for storms. This includes advancing their coastal maintenance programs to include resiliency measures with new technologies. It's high time the ACOE take the next step and provide new solutions to outdated coastal programs that aren't working.

Bill Van Parys' recent article in Curbed hits the nail on the head stating "this is mostly a Band-Aid" when referring to the recent ACOE approach to dumping a few more yards of sand on the Fire Island coastline. Coastal maintenance is reactive, the nourishments are intended to last for decades and only last for a fraction of their planned design. We are truly at the mercy of the storms and we can't stay ahead with old methods as storms become more frequent. It's time to take a hard look at investing in pro-active solutions that help keep sand in it's place protecting our homes.
It's time coastal towns step up and demand different solutions from our Senators. I'll be on stage at Aspen Climate in Miami, March 12th discussing what's possible for our coastlines. Join us in the conversation.
How Fire Island Was Saved — For Now After another winter of brutal storms, the Feds stepped in with a pile of very expensive sand. But it’s just a Band-Aid.
