Sports Performance Coach & Personal Trainer My name is Collin Lawless and I am a native of Midlothian, VA!

I am Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (2022) through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association as well as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (2017) through the National Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association. I am also a former collegiate baseball player graduating from Christopher Newport University in 2017. I developed a strong passion for human performance at CNU. From 2017 to 2022, I pursued collegiate sports performance roles with my most recent stops being at Western Carolina University, the University at Buffalo, and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. I recently chose to return to my hometown and focus my passion for human performance on helping members of the Midlothian community look, feel and move better through high-quality personal training services.

“My goal is to take the knowledge and experience I have acquired training collegiate athletes and apply it in a more exclusive setting to help members of our community live healthy and sustainable lives.”

Power, strength, endurance

Qualities we lose in the that order with age

He I’m demonstrating how I plan to keep my Power as long as possible, by doing power cleans

Power is useful, not only for athleticism

But for being reactive to chaotic situations in a physical environment

Being pushed, falling, stepping the wrong way, etc

Power is a great quality to maintain as we age

Tempo training made simple:

Beginners: Mastery & Safety

- Form Reinforcement: Slower tempos (e.g., a 2-second descent) prevent “ego lifting” and momentum, forcing the lifter to own every inch of the movement.

- Connective Tissue Adaptation: It builds tendon and ligament integrity at a pace that matches muscle growth, reducing injury risk.

Intermediate: Growth & Plateaus

- Increased Time Under Tension (TUT): By lengthening sets, intermediates can drive hypertrophy (muscle growth) without constantly needing heavier plates.

- Fixing Sticking Points: Paused isometrics (e.g., pausing at the bottom of a squat) eliminate the “bounce” forcing the lifter to build strength in their weakest positions.

Advanced: Specialization & Longevity

- Neural Drive: Focusing on explosive concentrics (the “up” phase) maximizes motor unit recruitment for peak power.

- Joint Sparing: High-intensity tempo work allows advanced lifters to achieve a massive training stimulus with lighter loads, protecting the joints from the wear and tear of constant max-effort lifting.
