Trump was asked why it’s okay for Kim Jong Un’s North Korea to have nukes. He had a simple answer: ā€˜Because he respects me and he likes me’President Donald Trump was asked why Irancould not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons when North Korea already had them and was still growing its arsenal. He tied his answer to Kim Jong Un. Trump said, ā€œBecause he respects me and he likes me.ā€

He also said, ā€œBecause you had a different president.ā€ Trump added, ā€œThey could have stopped him. He happens to be a friend of mine. Kim Jong Un, he is a friend of mine. He likes Trump.ā€ He claimed he was about the only person in the entire world Kim likes.

According to The Independent, Trump said Pyongyang had a ā€œpretty largeā€ nuclear capacity. In his first term, he was the first sitting U.S. president to meet Kim, in 2018. They met two more times before the talks broke down in 2019. Trump has since said he received ā€œlove lettersā€ from the North Korean leader. Zelensky said North Korea had already sent thousands of troops to fight for Russia

The remarks came a day after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed North Korea was getting ready to send 10,000 more troops to help Russia in its war against Ukraine. Zelensky said Pyongyang had already deployed 8,000 soldiers to fight on the Russian side. North Korea has formed a strategic defense alliance with Russia. Under that arrangement, Pyongyang has expanded its conventional arsenal and sent troops and weapons to help Vladimir Putin. It has also deepened relations with China North Korea has tested nuclear bombs on six separate occasions and has shown it can deliver them on long-range missiles. Trump has repeatedly said he will meet Kim by the end of this year, even though no meeting has been planned.

According to Wall Street Journal, Trump has privately pressed aides to arrange a meeting with Kim in his next trip to Asia, which will take place later this year. He recently scaled back the Ulchi Freedom Shield drills with South Korea.

Trump called the 11-day joint military exercise ā€œinappropriate and hostileā€ toward North Korea and costly to the United States. Allies were not expecting that change. After the drills were reduced, Kim’s sister Kim Yo Jong said that if the United States treated the move as ā€œas some kind of goodwill measure,ā€ it would ā€œnot get the answer that they desire.ā€ Trump has repeatedly framed the exercises as a concession to North Korea, as when he cited hispositive relationship with North Korea and Iran to reduce the drills with South Korea.

Kim Yo Jong also rejected Trump’s claim that he was in contact with Kim. She said she was ā€œcompletely unawareā€ of any such contact. She said Kim still had ā€œfond personal memories and feelingsā€ toward Trump and that relations between the two leaders remained ā€œexcellent.ā€ The two leaders’ relationship has remained a focus of attention, asTrump has pushed for a new meeting with Kim Jong Un in an attempt to rekindle their relationship.

ā€˜Americans Are Being Killed, and There’s No Recourse’: Ilhan Omar Demands Prosecution and Abolishment of ICE Rep. Ilhan Omar is calling for sweeping changes to the laws governing federal law enforcement accountability, arguing that existing legal protections leave Americans and immigrants with limited options when agents are accused of misconduct.

During a congressional hearing on Sept. 22, 2026, the Minnesota Democrat pressed a federal law enforcement official on what Congress could do to hold federal agents accountable for shootings, unlawful detentions and other alleged abuses. She called for changes to Section 1983, a federal civil rights law, and the restoration of the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division to a more active role in investigating alleged violations of civil rights. ā€œWe’ve now seen that it can’t exist anymore in its current state,ā€ Omar said of qualified immunity, the legal doctrine that can shield government officials from civil liability in certain circumstances. ā€œIt needs to change because, as it is, Americans are being killed. Immigrants are being killed under the color of law, and there’s no recourse to that.ā€Omar’s remarks came during a joint congressional hearing titled ā€œOur Values at Stake (Part V): Deaths, Deception, and a Failure of Accountability at DHS,ā€ which focused on allegations of misconduct and failures of accountability within the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The hearing featured testimony from Donna and Brent Ganger, the mother and brother of RenƩe Good, who was fatally shot by an ICE agent, as well as Stella Carlson, an eyewitness to the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti. Both deaths have become central to scrutiny of federal immigration enforcement operations in Minnesota. In questioning the federal official, identified in the video as Mr. Murphy, Omar contrasted the accountability mechanisms available when local law enforcement officers are accused of misconduct with those applicable to federal agents. She cited civil lawsuits and legal investigations as avenues through which victims of alleged misconduct may seek redress.

Omar said constituents have reported a range of experiences involving federal immigration enforcement, including injuries, property seizures and unlawful detention. She argued that accountability should extend beyond the most widely publicized fatal incidents to include people who have experienced other forms of alleged misconduct ā€œWhat do we need to change in current law to hold federal agents accountable to the level that at least law enforcement is accountable?ā€ she asked.
In response, Omar proposed strengthening the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, saying its mission had been weakened. She argued that attorneys should be able to investigate alleged violations of civil rights committed under the color of law, particularly cases involving deaths.

She also called for amending Section 1983 to provide a clearer path for people to sue federal agents over alleged misconduct. The law is commonly associated with civil rights lawsuits against state and local officials, while lawsuits against federal officials face different legal rules and limitations.
