HIGHWAY 50 SHOOTING: A deadly officer-involved shooting shut down westbound Highway 50 near Hazel Avenue in Sacramento County for hours Tuesday morning after a pursuit that began with an attempted traffic stop.

CHP says officers from CHP, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and Citrus Heights Police all opened fire after the driver got out holding what appeared to be a fi***rm. The man later died at the hospital.

The closure caused major delays, with one Folsom driver telling ABC10 his usual seven-minute trip took about 45 minutes. ABC10

SACRAMENTO ENTERTAINMENT ZONES: Sacramento is one step closer to expanding where people can carry and drink alcohol outdoors during permitted special events. The Sacramento City Council advanced a plan on Tuesday that would add six new “entertainment zones,” including areas in Oak Park and along Broadway.

Sacramento already has five entertainment zones concentrated in the Midtown and downtown areas. ABC10

SAC STATE MOVE-IN DAY: Thousands of Sacramento State students are moving into campus housing this week as the university begins a new school year with a new housing requirement and an entirely new residence hall.

Beginning this school year, first-year (non-transfer) students are required to live on campus for their first two academic years, with some exceptions. Sacramento State says students can apply for exemptions based on age, military or veteran status, financial hardship, and other circumstances. ABC10

HAWK FIRE DAMAGE: Dozens of homes have been destroyed by the Hawk Fire in Northern Nevada, while some families are still waiting to return and see what remains. Crews are gaining ground, but evacuation orders, power outages, and the threat of less favorable fire weather remain concerns. ABC10

WHEATLAND SCHOOL BOMB THREATS: For the second day in a row, Wheatland Union High School has received a threat against the campus. After searching the school, law enforcement has given the all-clear. Classes resumed at 10 a.m.

Nearby Bear River School was also mentioned in the Wednesday threat and also given the all-clear by investigators. Bear River classes were canceled for the full day on Wednesday. ABC10

CONSTRUCTION WORKER DEATH: A construction worker died after being hit and knocked off eastbound Highway 50 in Sacramento by a car. The worker landed on Stockton Boulevard, where he died from his injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol. Officials add alcohol is a factor in the investigation. ABC10
