On January 17, 1781, one of the most tactically brilliant battles of the Revolutionary War played out on a stretch of pastureland in the South Carolina backcountry. ⚔️ At Cowpens, General Daniel Morgan used a battlefield most commanders would have avoided and turned it into an advantage.

Morgan set up a double line of militia and Continentals, expecting his less experienced troops to fire and fall back, luring the British into a trap. It worked. Banastre Tarleton's feared cavalry and infantry were nearly wiped out in under an hour, one of the most lopsided American victories of the war.

Cowpens helped turn the tide of the war in the South and is still studied by military historians today. 🇺🇸
