A Small Upgrade That Can Help Save Thousands
Power surges are not always dramatic. They do not always come from lightning.
Small utility surges can happen over time from the power grid, equipment switching, and everyday voltage fluctuations. Those small spikes may not destroy anything instantly, but they can slowly wear down sensitive electronics and shorten the lifespan of appliances like refrigerators, HVAC equipment, washers, dryers, TVs, computers, microwaves, and smart home devices.
Then there are the larger surges, like when the power goes out and suddenly comes back on. That rush of power can fry circuit boards, control panels, appliances, and sensitive electronics in seconds.
That is why whole-home surge protection is one of the smartest upgrades you can make for your home.
We install PSP whole-home surge protectors, which include a lifetime warranty. If the surge protector takes a hit and does its job, the indicator light turns red. When that happens, Southern Standard Electric will come replace it for free.
It is a small payment now that can help protect you from spending thousands later on damaged appliances and electronics.

Service Upgrade Before & After
This homeowner had recently purchased the house and started running into electrical issues that were not identified during the general home inspection.
The original indoor panel had corrosion, crowded wiring, limited space, and breakers that were difficult to remove. Several circuits also lacked modern arc-fault and ground-fault protection. Outside, the meter equipment was corroded and the service did not have an exterior disconnect.
We handled this project in phases.
First, we replaced the old nuisance-tripping breakers to help resolve the immediate issues and restore more reliable power. A few months later, once the homeowner was ready, we completed the full service upgrade with a new indoor panel and exterior disconnect.
The new setup gives the home a cleaner, safer, and more serviceable electrical system with updated protection, more room for future circuits, and easier routing for outdoor electrical additions.
This is a great reminder that a standard home inspection does not always catch deeper electrical concerns. A pre-closing electrical evaluation can help homeowners avoid costly surprises after move-in.

Level 2 EV charger installation completed in Southport, NC.
We installed a 48-amp Level 2 EV charger for this homeowner’s Tesla, giving them a much faster and more convenient way to charge at home.
A properly installed Level 2 charger offers several major benefits:
Faster charging at home:
A 48-amp Level 2 charger can provide significantly faster charging than a standard wall outlet, making it much easier to recharge overnight and start the day with the range you need.
Dedicated power for daily use:
Instead of relying on a basic receptacle or slower charging method, this setup is installed on a dedicated circuit designed specifically for EV charging demand.
Cleaner and more convenient setup:
The charger is mounted in a permanent location with a clean finished look, so the homeowner can simply plug in when they get home without dragging cords across the garage.
Safer long-term charging:
EV chargers are continuous-load equipment, meaning they can pull power for several hours at a time. That’s why proper circuit sizing, wire sizing, breaker selection, and installation quality matter.
Better for modern homes and future EV ownership:
As more homeowners move to electric vehicles, a professionally installed Level 2 charger is a practical upgrade that adds convenience and helps make the home more EV-ready.
If you drive a Tesla or another EV and are considering a home charging setup, Southern Standard Electric can help make sure it’s installed safe!
