Got this stunning review for Political Outsiders. Love that my kinder gentler approach to a Political romantic suspense was well received. Also if you are looking for a book with a big twist What Really Happened does that very well, this book I was more obvious with it, because I don't want people anticipating a twist in every book.

Okay, so I went into the book 'Political Outsiders' by Raven Lynne fully expecting to bounce off but instead I was still reading at midnight trying to convince myself just one more chapter. So there is that.

Politics in fiction can go wrong really fast; believe me, I have read plenty to say this. Either it feels preachy, or one side gets painted as obviously terrible and you spend the whole book rolling your eyes. Lynne does not do that.

Mike and Allie disagree on pretty much everything and yet (yet...if you know you know) their back and forth never felt like a debate club exercise. Or a congressional debate. It felt like two actual people trying to understand each other while also being genuinely annoyed by each other. And that, ladies and gentlemen... that tension is what makes it work. More than once I found myself siding with one of them and then the other said something that made me go... hmm... okay, fair point. Pulling off that sort of writing requires more effort than anything. The ideas felt so refreshing yet so simple and it made me like the book even more.

The romance does not rush itself, which I appreciated. It builds the way real feelings tend to build, slowly and a little inconveniently, and by the time the big moments arrive you actually care about them landing.

Now the suspense, that is where I have to be a little honest. I picked up on a few things earlier than I think I was supposed to (if you are an avid reader like me that is bound to happen whether you like it or not). Some of the reveals felt like they were coming from a mile away. The mystery lost a bit of its punch because of it. It wasn't enough to spoil the experience, but I did notice it. I never really got that "wait... WHAT?!" moment I was hoping for.

What was the most loved thing for me in the book was the dialogue. It is genuinely funny, natural, and full of personality not just mumbo-jumbo you pick up in papers. The supporting cast felt like real people, more than just background noise, which is not always a given, another plus for the book.

Four stars out of five for me. The suspense needed just one more layer of unpredictability, but everything else, the banter, the slow-burn romance, the refreshingly balanced politics, made this a really enjoyable read. Would absolutely pick up the next Raven Lynne book
