HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO... US!
Three years ago we took flight–a former high school teacher in the Bronx committed to making educational travel opportunities more accessible to students in under-resourced communities, and board members from the public and private sectors enthusiastic about turning that vision into reality.
Today, we are fulfilling our mission: 466 students served, traveling more than 60,000 miles roundtrip to amazing destinations, near and far.
But we’re charting new territory at home as well. Students from throughout the NYC metro area this summer visited four HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities). In the fall, we’re supporting trips to Lincoln Center, another HBCU, and a Civil Rights Movement tour of the South.
I want to thank our donors–monetary and pro bono–for making all of this possible! And kudos to our dedicated Board: Jazminda Salcedo, Corrissa Sanford-Faber, Rachel Shelton, Sosina Makonnen, and Kallima Clarke. And a salute to past Board members Minnie Battle Mayes and Bob R. Gardner.
Let’s make this a Fabulous Fall–and year ahead–for our young people: https://thetripfoundation.org/

We’re proud to announce that The Trip Foundation has been awarded a $3,500 grant from the Schott Foundation in support of our work expanding access to transformative educational experiences for students.
For us, every grant represents more than funding. It represents confidence in our mission—and in the belief that where students go can change what they believe is possible for themselves.
This support will help us continue opening doors for students through educational travel, college and HBCU exposure, cultural experiences, and journeys that take learning beyond the classroom.
We are grateful to the Schott Foundation for investing in this work and in the students we serve.
We’re building something special at The Trip Foundation—and we’re grateful to have partners who believe in the journey.
Thank you, Schott Foundation!

Children with special needs deserve access to the same experiential learning opportunities as the general population. Educational equity informs everything we do and those we serve at The Trip Foundation.
So, when the speech pathologist at Elizabeth Blackwell School reached out this spring for support, we responded. She wanted to take her students to Spycape, an interactive museum in Manhattan where visitors can learn about history's greatest spies and immerse themselves in espionage-oriented activities that test critical thinking and problem solving.
Indeed, a day like this outside the classroom can have a lasting impact. Read more about it on page 7 of Horizons: https://tinyurl.com/mu7t2c8u

“Smells like camp.”
That was my usual refrain when I moved from the city to the suburbs many years ago–the fresh scent of God's green earth conjuring up visions of summers spent among the rolling hills, shimmering lakes, and idyllic pastures of Dover Plains, NY. Yes, Camp Sharparoon sealed my love of the great outdoors, if not for Mother Nature herself.
So, when the assistant principal at Brooklyn’s Evergreen Middle School for Urban Exploration reached out to say they needed financial help for their three-day camping trip, well, how could I resist?
Busloads of students this spring ventured to Nature’s Classroom in Charlton, MA, the excursion reflecting experiential learning at its best, with a number of playful activities mixed in as well.
According to AP Jean-Bruce, scholars "examined biomes, investigated the interdependent relationships among species, and gained a deeper understanding of humanity's connection to the natural world and the importance of environmental preservation."
I guess The Force was with them.

A donation isn't just a donation.
~ It's a student stepping onto an HBCU campus and imagining themselves there.
~ It's experiencing Lincoln Center and discovering a new appreciation for the arts.
~ It's walking in the footsteps of Civil Rights heroes and connecting history to the world around them.
~ It's a young person stepping beyond the boundaries of their neighborhood and seeing possibilities they may never have imagined.
That's what your support can make possible.
