UPDATE: As most have probably heard by now. The person that passed away was the driver of the vehicle that hit the construction crew’s truck. The crew is ok. This is still a tragic accident.
This is such a tragedy. Imagine going to work with plans to spend time with your family and loved ones, only to never make it home to those plans.
These accidents need to stop. Everyone deserves to return home safely after a day or night of work.
We stand with the families affected by these horrible tragedies, and we will continue to fight to raise awareness and help ensure that accidents like this become far less common.
Because behind every barrel is a life.

The heat doesn’t care how tough you are.
Whether you’re paving roads, digging trenches, flagging traffic, pouring concrete, or working utility lines, heat exhaustion and heat stroke can hit fast in a work zone.
⚠️ Know the warning signs:
🥵 Heat Exhaustion
• Heavy sweating
• Dizziness
• Headache
• Muscle cramps
• Nausea
• Weakness or fatigue
• Cool, clammy skin
🚨 Heat Stroke — MEDICAL EMERGENCY
• Confusion or acting strangely
• Fainting
• Hot, dry skin or stopped sweating
• Rapid pulse
• Vomiting
• Body temp over 103°
• Seizures or unconsciousness
💧 Drink water BEFORE you feel thirsty.
🧂 Replace electrolytes when sweating heavily.
🕶️ Take shade and cooldown breaks when possible.
👀 Watch your coworkers. Sometimes they won’t notice the signs themselves.
A hot day on the job can turn serious in minutes.
Because behind every barrel is a life.
Troopers are now riding in semis to catch drivers speeding through work zones.
That should tell you how serious this problem has become.
Road workers deserve to go home too. Slow down and stay alert.
Because behind every barrel is a life.
Thank you Ohio State Highway Patrol Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission
⭕ BTB OHIO STATE FACT OF THE DAY ⭕
That little cone you see in a parking lot?Usually only 18–28 inches tall.
But on highways and major road projects, crews use 36–42 inch cones, oversized drums, and large navigators for one simple reason:
Bigger traffic control devices grab your attention faster.
At 70 MPH, a driver travels over 100 feet every second. Those extra inches of height and reflective material can mean the difference between noticing a lane shift in time or crashing into a work zone.
The barrels aren’t oversized to inconvenience drivers. They’re oversized because visibility saves lives.
Slow down. Stay alert. Respect the zone.
Two crews. One night. Same stretch of highway.
Last night in Euclid, two separate Ohio Department of Transportation crews were hit on I-90… within minutes of each other.
Let that sink in.
These weren’t isolated incidents.
This wasn’t “bad luck.”
This is the reality we’re facing in work zones every single day.
Men and women showed up to do their jobs—set up cones, pick up debris, keep our roads safe—and instead, they were struck by vehicles that never slowed down, never moved over, or never paid attention.
And the scariest part?
It happened twice… in the same place… in the same night.
How many more warnings do we need?
This is exactly why Ohio House Bill 82 matters.
Stronger penalties.
More accountability.
Real consequences for reckless driving in work zones.
Because right now, a close call is becoming normal…
and getting hit is becoming a risk workers are expected to accept.
That should never be the standard.
Every cone you see…
Every barrel you pass…
Every flashing light on the side of the road…
That’s not an inconvenience.
That’s someone’s workplace.
Slow down. Move over. Pay attention.
Everything is expensive right now
Groceries, gas, bills… life in general
And for most of us it’s stressful
Now imagine going through that…
while also losing someone you love in a work zone accident
The last thing a family should be worrying about in that moment is money
Funeral costs
Missed work
Unexpected bills piling up

Every cone. Every barrel. Every sign.
There’s a person behind it.
A parent trying to make it home
A husband or wife counting down the hours
A crew working inches from traffic so others can get where they’re going
This week we asked you to slow down
To pay attention
To respect the work zone
But this doesn’t end when the week does
Work zones don’t disappear tomorrow
Neither does the risk
So carry it with you
Every time you see orange
Slow down
Stay alert
Move over
Safe actions save lives
