I was a little overwhelmed trying to milk all 3 Jerseys and we didn’t need that much milk so I decided to focus on Sammi only for this lactation cycle.
She gives us between 1-2.5 gallons calf sharing on once a day milking. She typically gives 1.5 each evening.
I love calf sharing because it works best for our family and I also think that these cows are such wonderful mothers. They should get to keep their babies. I understand why dairy’s and even small homesteads pull the cows, it’s just not for me.
That being said, I am a little anxious for this calf to wean so I can have a thicker cream line 😂
My evening routine has changed a bit.
Some may say that it makes zero sense to add another to do to the list.
I was worried too but I’ve come to really enjoy my evening milking and providing our family with another source of something wholesome.

Amy is a beautiful heifer who fails at being photogenic because she's so friendly.
She bred at a little under 16 months old and is confirmed via ultrasound and blood.
She measured 42" TTT at 1.5 years and is ready to go to her new ranch.
