Washington DC skyline & the cherry treesblossom 🌸

Washington, D.C. has no massive skyscrapers because a height limit law established in 1899 restricts building heights to preserve the city’s monuments and skyline and to give the city a more European-style appearance. That’s why the Capitol and the Washington Monument still dominate the view, creating its unique open and monumental feel. Cherry blossom.

The cherry trees in Washington, D.C. were a gift from Japan in 1912, symbolizing friendship between the two countries. Every spring, usually between late March and early April, they bloom in stunning shades of pink and white. The most iconic views can be found along the Tidal Basin, where the blossoms reflect beautifully over the water and transform the city into a spring spectacle.

A historic stillness on Boathouse Row. ⛸️ The February 2026 freeze has turned the Schuylkill into a silent, icy stage, but the beauty comes with a bite. I’ve never experienced temperatures this low in my life, especially not for so many consecutive days. Seeing the city’s iconic lights reflecting off a solid river is a stunning, shivering reminder of just how unprecedented this winter has truly been.

A city stilled by the frost. 🧊 Under the rare grip of the February 2026 deep freeze, the Schuylkill River sits uncharacteristically silent, transformed into a vast sheet of ice. As the golden hour sun strikes the skyline, it serves as a stunning reminder of the power and beauty of an unpredictable Philadelphia winter.

It looks black and white,
but it isn’t.

Winter makes the world feel colorless,
as if life were living in shades of gray.

Sometimes we feel that way too—
quiet, paused, suspended.

But even in white
there are infinite tones.
Even in black
there is depth and light.

Winter isn’t emptiness—
it’s a softer kind of beauty. ❄️

Being outside is way colder than opening the freezer door. But seeing everything covered in snow ❄️ is beautiful.
