World Baseball Showcases

Today, on National Coaches Day, we’re celebrating the people who make this game about so much more than baseball.

To our WBS coaches, the coaches in the other dugout, and the youth, high school, college coaches, instructors and mentors who helped our coaches and players get here—thank you for your time, energy, knowledge and heart. You teach more than the game; you build confidence, accountability and resilience, while bringing players together from different backgrounds and places.

Baseball has taken us around the world, but the people we meet along the way will always be the best part.

To every coach who has shared a field, lesson or part of this journey with WBS—thank you. We are better because of you.

Happy National Coaches Day! ⚾️🌎

Last night Josh Hendrickson became my 3rd Australian player this year to make his MLB debut.

This might be the most special story of them all as Josh played for me since he was 10 years old.

He was always a tall body, but physically weak as a kid. To give you an idea of his velocities I tracked and recorded all of my kids data from the time they were 7 years old until they were 18

At age 12 he was 57-60mph
At age 15 he was 65-70mph
At age 18 he was 80-82mph

Josh was our last pick for the 2015 18u national team. He was a kid that had one of the best potential bodies in youth baseball in Australia, but just hadn’t figured it out as a junior player. He was rather shy and timid, command wasn’t quite there, had limited secondary stuff, but the arm stroke was great. Our pitching guy Ryan Schurman did a great job with him.

Josh then took a gap year from college as he graduated high school at 17.

By the time he left for college and our West Coast Colts trip he was up to 85-86 and his control had improved immensely, and he’d become a better athlete on the mound and was developing a sense of inner mongrel.

He went to a JC in Texas, and it didn’t work out. He transferred to Barton JC in Kansas, and had a great year…then transferred to U of San Diego and was drafted in the 38th round by Philly.

He had Tommy John surgery in 2023, and Philly released him. He made a comeback in independent baseball 2 years later and then Houston signed him.

Now at age 29 he’s a big leaguer.

My point is that this kid never quit. Several gave up on him. He was cut from elite youth teams when he was younger. His parents kept investing in development, he came away with us 3 times on our Colts trip and now this 29 year old kid is on the highest stage in the World. Josh struggled just as much as any youth baseball player I’ve had and beat all the odds.

There was always something there and he trusted the process…..and this is why you never quit.
For years we just stressed competing with Josh. Competing comes first and this kid flat out forced himself to learn how do compete and figured out how to really hate losing.

Congrats Josh Hendrickson. You fricking made it.

Our West Coast/College World Series Swing is over. Our Colts Black Team capped it off winning the NCS Regional World Series in Reno, Nevada this weekend.

This squad finished off with a 23-13-1 record….yes we played 37 games in 35 days with kids from Australia, Hong Kong, Dubai, Indonesia, Taiwan, Alaska, India, Canada, Saudi Arabia, and various parts of the USA.

Our other 3 teams came in for 4 weeks and played 26-27 games each in 28 days.

There’s not another international organization that provides this kind of game time, nonetheless gives kids opportunities to play against college players and in pressurized tournaments every weekend.

We have now had over 300 of our players advance onto college baseball and over 50 sign professional contracts while developing these players entirely from smaller markets from all over the world.

We have set next years dates. Send us a message for more detail and join us next June/July for the opportunity of a lifetime.

This is a program that tells you what you need to know, not what you want to hear. We don’t sugarcoat our athletes, we prepare them for the next level. At the same time our rosters are minimal, allowing our players to play every game. For 3 weeks on our tour, our rosters were at 11 players, insuring kids played every day, where other programs roll out 16-24 man rosters. We develop 2 way players better than anyone else.

It’s a grind…..we drove over 6,000 miles on this trip from Portland to Omaha, back to Seattle, back to Portland, down to Northern California, across to Reno, and finishing in LA.

Our kids are more ready than anyone else’s at the next level.

Are you ready?
