Experimental bass improvisation.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to let everyone know a week from today I’ll playing my first gig in free improvisation! I’ll be playing with an ad hoc quartet composed of me on bass (obvs), a saxophonist, a trombonist, and a pedal steel guitarist. I have never played with any of these musicians before but hey that’s part of the adventure and I’m sure they’ll kill it. We’ll be opening up for some other great musicians so feel free to stay the whole night if you do come out. Show info posted above. Come out!

Hello everyone, welcome to my new artist page. Here I will be documenting my ventures in experimental music. Of course expect all the obvious stuff you’d expect from any other artist's FB page: New releases, live show announcements, tour announcements (maybe eventually), and whatever else might be relevant to post here.
Anyway, I have a new album out and here it is! https://danielpanus.bandcamp.com/album/new-existence. It is titled New Existence, and it is an experimental record composed entirely of improvised double bass playing featuring no musician other than myself. Genre wise, it can be classified as free improvisation/free music/free jazz etc. It is essentially the first real documentation of years worth of cultivating my improvised double bass approach. Particular influences have been greats of free improv such as Derek Bailey, John Zorn, and Keiji Haino, as well as the jazz fusion virtuosity of bassists such as Jaco Pastorious and Stanley Clarke. Of course there are many more influences than just that, but it would take all day to list them out. The album is (for the most part) aggressive, atonal, and dissonant, keeping in touch with my roots as a metal musician, so I do not recommend listening if you are of the faint of heart. So for everyone else, please give it a listen! Let me know what you think, and share it with whoever else you think might like it. It is currently only on bandcamp, but I will probably put it on spotify and other sites in the future. Also shoutout to Jared Phoelman for helping me record this album in his Basement (the Boogie Zone Studios).
