Due to very recent health developments within The Becoming cast, the presentation of that installation and the performances, scheduled at the Painted Bride Art Center for June 5-7, have been canceled. Creator Shavon Norris, the cast, and the entire creative team of The Becoming are disappointed by the disruption of the process of bringing to public view this searching and intimate look into the lives, occupations, and visioning of young Black girls/women. They, and we at ArtPhilly, want to present it at a time when it can have its truest and most impactful manifestation. Please stay tuned for rescheduling of The Becoming, most likely in Fall 2026, and meanwhile, lend your support to the other amazing projects that make up the ArtPhilly festival.
The Becoming | ArtPhilly Shavon Norris (artist, educator, facilitator) is placing herself in the continuum of Black womanhood. In collaboration with legendary dancer, professor and choreographer Germaine Ingram, she is embracing and investigating the role of elder to five women, ages 11 through 40.

Proof of Life is an intentional practice powered by people and shaped by real stories. This is artist-driven, people-powered work, rooted in presence, exchange, and the belief that creativity belongs in community. Go deeper into the artists's process in this interview: https://wfly.co/Os28I

"The experiment is to make the audience understand how, in Latin American music and our folklore, songs are created." - ANDRÉS CISNEROS
Part of our Proof of Life Residency showings, "Philly Cancionero" brings that process to life in real time. Audience members write and submit responses. Andrés selects one and, with his band, transforms it into a song on the spot, live. This happens three times over the course of the evening.

West Park Community,
Every great festival needs someone who can hold a crowd, own a stage, and make every single person feel like they belong in the moment.
This June 13th, that person is Carlo Campbell
A Philadelphia actor and performer with deep roots in the city’s theatre community — from Quintessence Theatre Group to Passage Theatre Company to Theatre in the X, the West Philly institution dedicated to bringing world-class theatre to this community for free — Carlo brings the kind of stage presence that doesn’t just host a show. It elevates one.
From the opening act to the final bow, Carlo will be holding it down on the MainStage keeping the energy alive, the crowd engaged, and the vibes exactly where they need to be all afternoon.
West Park Arts Fest · Saturday, June 13 · 1–6PM · Free · All ages

"This piece hopes to instill a sense of doubt in these icons, as well as a sense of self-worth in young men." - Taj Rauch
"All Heathens Go to Heaven" is a gamified, audience-driven experience that puts a mirror to human behavior, confronting the influence of toxic masculinity in real time. Participants move through a constructed world where their choices shape what unfolds.
Part of our Proof of Life Artists Residency showings, there are only two opportunities to experience the work in this capacity! May 15th and 16th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
